Blair, Dr. Jonathan Hirsch and Dr. Taylor Belk are board certifed specialists in veterinary ophthalmology. Board certified veterinary ophthalmologists are designated as: Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Specialization requires an additional 1 year internship and 3 year residency following 4 years of veterinary school. Board certification requires the successful completetion of both examinations by the Board of American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists Examiners. Ophthalmology specialists provide expertise and special equipment needed to diagnose and treat animal eye disease. We work with your primary veterinarian and serve as an extension of their own practice and a method of providing a level of ocular health care not available in general practice.

Cherry eye is when the nictitating membrane, also known as the third eyelid, prolapses. It is primarily seen in dogs, but can occur in certain cat breeds.

Endothelial degeneration occurs when the cells on the innermost layer of the cornea deteriorate gradually over time. Since these cells do not regenerate, their loss leads to corneal edema (fluid within the layers). As a result, the cornea becomes cloudy and vision is impaired.
While we can manage early cases medically, surgery can be a good option for more advanced stages.
As seen here, Rosie had a remarkable improvement following placement of a Gundersen conjunctival flap on both eyes by Dr. Belk. She’s enjoying better vision and improved comfort post-operatively!

RECOVER BLS (Basic Life Support) focuses on essential life-saving techniques like CPR, airway management, and chest compressions in emergencies.
RECOVER ALS (Advanced Life Support) covers advanced care like defibrillation, advanced airway management, and drug administration for critically ill animals.

Together, BLS & ALS certifications ensure our team is prepared to handle life-threatening situations with the best possible care. 💙

Bocephus, aka Bo, is an 8-year-old Labrador Retriever who was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts when he was just 4 years old. To manage his condition, he received topical anti-inflammatory eye drops and , a supplement developed by , which supports ocular health in cats and dogs. After a period of medical management, Bo underwent cataract surgery with Dr. Blair, and he’s now able to hunt again without any visual impairments!
