⭐ Congratulations Debbie Shuler for receiving the Keith R. Knapp Award for Excellence in Mentorship! ⭐
Debbie is the definition of Nurse Extraordinaire! She is a caregiver and educator by nature. In her short 7 years as a Nurse in Long Term Care, she has worked as a floor nurse, she has performed duties as a Staff Development Coordinator, and she has also been a successful Director of Nursing. Debbie’s compassion can be seen in both the elders she loves so dearly as well as the staff she is so dedicated to teaching. She is sensitive, gentle, and empathetic when caring for her older dementia residents. She is quick-witted, energetic, and clever when it comes to teaching Certified Nursing Assistant Classes, In-Services, Skills Fairs, and Greenhouse CORE Training. Debbie is sparkly and bubbly and is always smiling or joking, unless she is tearful and emotional because she has such a tender heart. She has a servitude attitude that not only touches the Homeplace campus, but other CCC campus’ as well. Debbie enjoys being a trained trainer, as her profound wish to learn is best displayed once she can mentor and educate others on her knowledge base.
Debbie truly is a jack of all trades. She can MacGyver just about any fix-it project from a discombobulated wheelchair to sewing a door sash to deter mobile elders from entering another elder’s room unannounced. She delights in feeding and making homemade treats and gifts for all she encounters. When I say Debbie’s personality sparkles, it literally does, as she uses her bedazzle machine on almost anything she can. She is an organizational queen from her label maker and many color-coded binder systems to the way she manages crash carts, oxygen rooms and storage garages. Debbie has a deep commitment to all aspects of her job and takes great pride in developing the CCC workforce. She instills the joy of the job in her staff as they grow in the skill and knowledge she so effortlessly teaches.
Debbie Shuler should be nominated, recognized, and the winner of the Excellence in Mentorship Award for her enduring dedication to those she serves. Her remarkable impact on both elders, their families, and staff is second to none! If there was a Wonder Woman Award, Debbie would claim it, as she IS a Wonder Woman on our campus at Homeplace at Midway. But don’t blink because you may actually see her wearing the cape (or a circus ring leader hat) on occasion as she has a childlike heart and dresses the part for any other heart who may need to see her that day. Debbie leads with her heart and this compassionate temperament has made a significant difference for all who live, work and thrive at Homeplace!
