🌪️ It’s Officially That Time of Year Again: Tornado Season 🌪️

Severe weather can develop quickly, and being prepared before a warning is issued can make all the difference. Now is the time to review your family’s emergency plan, identify your safest shelter location, and make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Tornado Safety Tips:

✅ Know the difference between a Watch and a Warning

* Tornado Watch: Conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
* Tornado Warning: A tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.

✅ Have Multiple Ways to Receive Alerts

* NOAA Weather Radio
* Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone
* Local weather apps and media outlets

✅ Identify Your Safe Place

* Basement or storm shelter is best.
* If no basement is available, go to a small interior room on the lowest floor away from windows.

✅ Protect Yourself

* Cover your head and neck with your arms, a helmet, heavy blanket, or mattress.
* Stay away from windows and exterior walls.

✅ Prepare an Emergency Kit

* Flashlights
* Batteries
* First aid supplies
* Medications
* Water and snacks
* Phone chargers

Mobile Home Safety

⚠️ Mobile homes are not safe during tornadoes, even if they are tied down.

* Identify a sturdy building or designated storm shelter before severe weather develops.
* Leave immediately when a Tornado Warning is issued—do not wait until you see the tornado.
* Know the quickest route to your shelter location.
* If no shelter is available, seek the lowest ground possible and protect your head and neck from flying debris.

Stay weather-aware, have a plan, and don’t wait until the sirens sound to decide where you’ll go.

A great new resource that just launched!

Wyoming residents, landowners, community leaders, and wildfire professionals now have access to Wyld Fire, a new wildfire risk assessment and planning platform developed by the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC) and Tri-State Generation & Transmission. The platform provides interactive mapping tools and wildfire information designed to support informed decision-making and wildfire preparedness across the state.

Whether you're interested in learning more about wildfire risk around your home, checking current fire restrictions, or exploring wildfire conditions in your area, Wyld Fire offers valuable information at your fingertips.

As we continue working together to build more fire-adapted communities, tools like this help increase awareness, improve planning efforts, and support proactive wildfire mitigation across Wyoming.

🎬 A Special Community Shout-Out 🎬

We don’t do this very often, but today we’d like to share something special.

One of our own worked incredibly hard to help make this happen, and we couldn’t be more proud of the dedication, commitment, and countless hours that went into bringing this project to life.

The screening of Outriding the Devil is a FREE community event, and we’d love to see our community come out and show their support.

Let’s fill the seats, celebrate the hard work of those involved, and support a project that has a local connection close to our hearts. It’s not every day we get the opportunity to recognize one of our own in this way.

Please join us in congratulating everyone involved—especially Nicholas Skalicky whose hard work helped make this possible. We are incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished!

🍿 Admission is free—so bring your friends, bring your family, and let’s pack the theater!

⚡ Wild Wednesday: Protect Your Home from Lightning Strike Fires ⚡

It’s the last Wild Wednesday of the month, and today we’re talking about a wildfire threat many people don’t think about — lightning strikes. A single strike can spark grass, brush, roofs, trees, and even attic fires within seconds.

Here are a few ways to help defend your home and property:

🔥 Keep grass and weeds trimmed around structures
🔥 Remove dead trees and branches near your home
🔥 Clean leaves and pine needles from roofs and gutters
🔥 Store firewood and combustible materials away from buildings
🔥 Check lightning rods and surge protection systems if installed
🔥 After nearby lightning, watch for smoke or smoldering areas around your property

⚠️ Remember: Some lightning-caused fires can smolder for hours before becoming visible.

If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911.

Stay weather aware, stay prepared, and help protect our community this wildfire season.
