This week's featured "HomeGrown Mental Health Hack" is brought to you by Dana! Dana's 'hack' focuses on grounding yourself and getting your hands dirty!

The healing power of Gardening:

*Start small to avoid feeling overwhelmed, even a small herb garden can be very rewarding.
*Set goals that are simple, achievable goals. Spend just five minutes a day in the garden initially and gradually increase the time as you feel more comfortable.
*Incorporate Sensory Elements: Create a sensory garden with plants that engage all your senses. Include fragrant herbs like lavender, colorful flowers, and plants with interesting textures.
*Take Breaks: Remember to take regular breaks to avoid overexertion. Stretching before and after gardening can also help prevent injuries.
*Create a Restful Space and designate a quiet corner of your garden with a bench or a comfortable chair where you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. This can be a great spot for meditation or relaxation.

HomeGrown Squad Member of the week… Jenny Ohrmundt!

Hello! I am Jenny Ohrmundt, I am the Sole Owner and Founder of HomeGrown Counseling. I was born and raised in Milaca, and I have had the amazing opportunity to bring outpatient mental health therapy services to a community that has helped make me the person I am today. I have dealt with the small-town struggles like most of you that someone from a big city just can’t understand until you have lived it. One of those struggles was seeing people drive over an hour for mediocre mental health services and that is where my idea sparked. I can do this! I can bring mental health therapy to my HOME town to a community I care so much about, to the place that I was GROWN up in and where my roots are! And HOMEGROWN COUNSELING was born!

I got my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The College of St. Scholastica and I got my master’s degree in Social Work from Boise State University. I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) I have had the opportunity to work in many different aspects of the mental health world including working with severe and persistent mental illnesses, inpatient psychiatric units, children and adolescent therapy, family therapy, adult therapy, geriatric therapy and couples therapy. All of these opportunities have given me firsthand experience and reassurance I am exactly where I am meant to be. I was born to counsel and all I have ever wanted to do is let people know they are not alone, everyone has their struggles, and no one is immune to feelings of anxiety or depression. Everyone struggles, and no one has it all together no matter how it may look from the outside.

I wanted HomeGrown to be a comfortable and welcoming space and really like home from the moment you walk in. At HomeGrown Counseling we do real. This world is full of enough unknowns and I wanted a place people knew they could trust that what you see is what you get. We come as we are and we want you too as well. You will never see someone in a fancy suit, or see a sterile hospital like setting. You will be greeted from the moment you walk in, and be able to grab yourself a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water or one of each!! I wanted people to be truly comfortable in a what can feel like a pretty uncomfortable situation at first. There are big comfy couches in every office and truly some of the most professional, talented, genuine and authentic people you will ever meet. Words cannot describe the fullness of my heart to be able to give back to a community that has given so much to me over the years. I thank everyone for trusting us with your most precious resource…your mind.
