**Tick Tuesday at Select Urgent Care!**
It’s tick season — and not all bites are harmless.

At Select Urgent Care, we’re seeing more patients with tick bites and Lyme concerns. We're here to help you figure out what’s serious, what’s not, and what to do next.

✅ Which Ticks Can Transmit Lyme Disease?

🟢 Blacklegged Tick (Deer Tick) – YES
• Common in wooded or brushy areas (Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic)
• Known to spread Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Babesiosis

🔴 Ticks That Typically DO NOT Spread Lyme:
• Lone Star Tick – May cause rash or STARI (Lyme-like illness)
• American Dog Tick – Carries Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
• Brown Dog Tick – More common indoors; not a Lyme carrier

🩺 Worried about a recent tick bite? We can help!
✔️ Safe Tick Removal
✔️ Bite Evaluation
✔️ Blood Testing for Lyme Disease or other tick-borne illnesses (when appropriate)
✔️ Antibiotics for early Lyme or preventive treatment in select cases

🧬 When is Lyme Testing Recommended?
According to CDC guidelines, blood tests are most accurate:
🔹 4–6 weeks after a bite, when antibodies are detectable
🔹 Testing too early may lead to false negatives

⚠️ However, you should still be seen right away if you have symptoms of early Lyme:
• Bullseye rash – this alone is diagnostic for Lyme → Come in ASAP!
• Fever, chills, or body aches
• Joint pain
• Fatigue or headache

🧢 TICK TIP:
After hiking, camping, or yardwork, always do a full-body tick check — especially:
👉 under arms
👉 behind ears
👉 waistline
👉 scalp and hairline

🌿 Let’s stay safe this summer — and keep Lyme off your list.

🌞🔥 Extreme Heat Alert This Weekend! Stay Safe, Stay Cool & Stay Aware! 🔥🌞

Hey, friends! The scorching heat is hitting this weekend, and we want to make sure you and your family stay safe! At Select Urgent Care, your health and safety are our priority, so we’ve got some important tips to help you keep cool and stay safe in the sun, especially when it comes to pool safety for the kiddos! 🏊‍♀️🌊

💧 Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!Drink plenty of water throughout the day – and NO, iced coffee doesn’t count! 😉 Make sure to hydrate even if you’re not thirsty to avoid heat exhaustion.

🧢 Stay in the ShadeTry to avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. if possible. If you must be outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat and use sunscreen!

💥 Know the Signs of Heat ExhaustionDizziness, weakness, or nausea? Get inside, drink water, and rest. If things get worse, seek medical attention right away.

🚗 Don’t Leave Pets or Kids in the CarIt only takes a few minutes for temperatures to rise dangerously high in a parked car – even with the windows cracked. Always bring your pets and kids with you!

🏖️ Stay Cool IndoorsIf you have air conditioning, stay inside during the hottest parts of the day. If you don’t, head to a cool, air-conditioned public place like a mall or library.

🌊 Pool Safety for the Kids!If you’re heading to the pool this weekend, be extra vigilant with your little swimmers! Here are a few pool safety tips:
* NEVER leave kids unattended in or around the pool, even for a second.
* Use proper floatation devices for non-swimmers (but don’t rely solely on them).
* Make sure everyone knows how to swim or has access to swimming lessons.
* Keep a phone nearby in case of an emergency.
* Set boundaries: Make sure kids know where it's safe to swim, and establish clear rules.

If you or someone you know starts feeling unwell from the heat or you need help with a pool-related injury, don’t hesitate to visit us at Select Urgent Care. We’ve got you covered!

👉 Need help or have questions? We’re here for quick, quality care when you need it most.
Stay safe, cool, and enjoy the weekend – but always keep an eye on the kids in the pool! 😎💦
