The large Chicken Sign that has been on Route 199 in Milan for over 70 years is moving to a new restaurant. Michael Lueck the owner of Charlie O's Restaurant in Red Hook has acquired it for the Diner that he will be opening soon. Once the sign is refurbished, it will be installed on the roof of Raena's Roadside Diner on Route 9G in Germantown.

The sign dates back to at least the 1950's when the Taconic State Parkway ended at Route 199 and the sign advertised a restaurant. In the 1980's the sign promoted Norma's Country Store.

The Milan Volunteer Fire Department has acquired the property to build a new consolidated fire station to replace two older stations. Milan VFD is working with an Engineer to plan the project, and is applying for grants to fund the project. The Department members are glad that the sign is staying in the local area.

We closed out 2025 with 350 alarms. These alarms receive were medical emergency, car accidents, carbon monoxide, Fire alarms, tree and wires down, brush fire and house fires. We have also responded into neighboring areas to provide support. So far in 10 days into 2026 we have responded to 9 alarms. How about a New Year resolution and stop by any Firehouse on Monday nights from 7pm to 9pm and see how you can help out our community. We have a spot for everyone from interior Firefighter, exterior Firefighter, Driver, Fire Police, support Squad and EMT.

Stop on down and grab your hot meal tonight from 4pm to 8pm. Firehouse smells delicious.
