As hard as this is for me to share, I want you all to know that, On this day one year ago, I defeated cancer. My four year battle with Graves’ disease that eventually lead to thyroid cancer is no longer a part of me🙏🏽. The reason why I wanted to share my story is because not only am I thankful for my lord and savior for guiding me every step of the way but because you guys are also part of the reason why I was able to overcome one of the most challenging moments in my life. As hard as it was to continue my business with M.O. Cookies while facing these trials, it is what allowed me to persevere on a day to day basis. Everyday was different. Some days were harder than others. Decorating cookies and treat making was always therapeutic to me. But when my condition came to light, it is what I leaned on to the most. It was those moments where I would put my headphones on and listen to William McDowell, hum to his hymns while internally worshiping and praying for the reassurance that I desperately needed. And in those moments, my fears and worries would be casted away. And it is also when I was at peace the most. We never imagine ourselves in scenarios like this. What others label a common thyroid problem could have ultimately taken my life at some point if I did not attend it the way I did. And because of that I want to bring awareness to you. I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to stay on top of your health by attending your routine checkups.Asking questions at your doctor visits regardless of how you think the doctor may perceive you as. And most important, don’t ever let anyone dismiss your symptoms or concerns. Make sure that your medical professionals are doing everything in their power to rule out and treat your condition. Doctors make mistakes too. Thyroid disease is not just about losing or gaining weight. There’s are so many more functions that are handled by that butterfly gland. And not everyone experiences the same symptoms, so it is best that you don’t go by what the next person is telling you. Educate yourself as much as you can. No cancer is to big or to small, Cancer is cancer and at any given point can become deadly.
