"I don't even like myself"

I had a conversation with a woman earlier this week who is experiencing all kinds of symptoms. Unexplained weight gain, anxiety, fatigue, poor sleep, aches and pains, you name it.

She feels like everything is changing and her doctors just aren't listening to her. She feels unheard, dismissed, and confused.

She told me "I just want to feel better, I don't even like myself"

She feels this way because she's tired, she's irritable and she finds herself taking it out on her family.

From taking anti-inflammatories most days to help keep aches and pains at bay to not being able to remember when she took her last anti-inflammatory medicine after just 4 weeks of working with us!

Your body is designed to heal!

No matter where you are on your health journey, I promise you, your body is designed to heal.

As we age and things start to shift and change and nothing works like it used to, it's easy to accept this as a normal part of aging. We accept this because it's what we've been taught. We've watched generations before us age with aches and pains and chronic conditions so we assume it's our turn now.

We go to the doctor complaining of joint pain, brain fog, anxiety, weight gain, etc. and we're told "your labs are normal, you're just older now, have you tried eating less and moving more?"

Most doctors are quick to throw you a pill for every complaint. But these pills aren't actually healing the symptom but instead providing a mask.

If you're lucky, your doctor will mention lifestyle interventions that can help with your symptoms but there will be no support to actually implement these new behaviors.

Believe it or not, your body is designed to heal! Instead of being so quick to take a medicine for every little thing or trying to FIX each individual symptom, we actually teach you how to SUPPORT your body and your healing so you're not so reliant on perscription medicines that might not actually work and probably have a laundry list of side effects.

Expectation vs. Reality

When we are putting in the time, working hard, and doing all the right things, we expect to see success as a result.

The REALITY is as we are working hard we will see challenges and we will face failures and we might not see results right away.

This can be so frustrating!

When we're in the midst of a challenge or struggle, it's hard to see the forrest through the trees. It's hard to see that with each challenge or set back, we're actually getting stronger and more resilient. It's hard to see that we're able to face adversity and overcome obstacles so much easier than we used to. Instead, it's easy to get stuck in the mud and focus on the problem.

But what we know is when you continue to focus more on the PROCESS and LESS on the OUTCOMES, you stay more consistent over time and you WILL eventually see that success you've been working towards.

You can apply this to anything you're working towards. Whether its a weight loss goal, a fitness goal, a business goal, etc. I can almost promise you success will not be linear. If you talk to anyone who has the thing you desire, the common theme will be that they didn't quit when it got hard.

The holidays can be a tricky time to navigate your health. There are so many gatherings with friends and family and so many opportunities for sweets and other luxuries that don't support our health when we have them too often. Here are a few tips to help navigate the upcoming holiday season:

1. Choose your battles. You don't have to go into every event with a white knuckle approach. This is a sure way to wear down your willpower quickly. Instead, be strategic. Do you LOVE your aunt Sally's apple pie and look forward to it every year? Then plan to have a peice. But if it's just OK and not one of your favorites you can simply pass. Your health is more important than aunt Sally's feelings. She'll get over it.

2. Bring a dish to share. If you're worried there won't be anything for you to eat, bring something! This way you know there will be at least one thing that supports you rather than eating a bunch of food that you don't necissarily enjoy AND upsets your system.

3. Keep it to the holiDAY. This one tends to be the trickiest for people. Once the holiday season is upon us we feel the need to eat, drink and be merry most days. And while this might FEEL good in the moment, you're likely going to pay for it in the long run. You don't have to give up on your health and defer your goals to the new year. You CAN enjoy the holidays and support your health at the same time.

The way we think about ourselves and talk about ourselves has a big impact on our success. The words you speak about yourself become your identity.

Let that sink in.

Most of us women aren't very nice to ourselves are we? We tend to be our own biggest critics.

But here's the thing. We believe that a full, happy and healthy life is available to everyone. It doesn't matter what your labs look like today, or what your habits are, or what you weight...All of that can be changed.

The belief that those things cannot be changed is actually what is holding you back from the life you deserve. You think you're not a person who can prioritize whole foods. You think you're not a person who can say no to the endless amounts of Halloweed candy that will be making an appearance next week. You think you're not a person who has enough time or energy to exercise. You think you're not a person who can take 5 minutes in the morning for a breathwork or meditation session instead of scrolling your phone. As long as you continue to believe these things, you'll continue to feel stuck.

Raise your hand if the thought of going to a BBQ this weekend is causing you anxiety because you're on a diet and you don't want to ruin your progress?

We've all been there!

It's important to note that we fully support you spending time with your friends and family. And if you don't want to impose food rules this weekend, you certainly don't have to.

But if you know certain foods negatively impact how you feel and you don't want to spend the remainder of your weekend tired, anxious, bloated, etc. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy this time with friends and family without all the anxiety about the food that will be available to you.

1. Choose your battles: If you know you have room to defer from your normal diet, save it for the foods you'll really enjoy. For example, your favorite dessert your Aunt Sally always brings to the summer picnic or the trip for icecream with your grandkids. Making these decisions ahead of time will save us the hassle of having to rely on willpower in the moment.

2. Bring a dish to share: This is a win/win! You get to enjoy something that serves your body well and your friends and family get to enjoy something new! This is a sure way to know there will be something on the table that works for you and your nutritional needs.

3. Stop eating when you're full: This might sound like a no-brainer. But when we're caught up spending time with loved ones, grazing on appetizers, eating meals on the go, and sampling desserts, it's easy to lose touch with our hunger and fullness cues. Try to take a mindful minute to tap in to how you're feeling. Are you still hungry or are you just eating because the food is still available to you?

We see it every day. Diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, IBS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc. What do they all have in common?

They are largely PREVENTABLE!

When you go to the doctor and get diagnosed with any of the above conditions, you'll likely get sent home with a new perscription. Before you know it, you're taking upwards of 10 medications and you most likely still don't feel better.

This is how the system is designed and it should infuriate you.

Even if your doctor wanted to take a more holistic approach, they do not have the TIME to provide you the education and mentoring required for you to actually make the changes you need to feel better. So they do the only thing they know and perscribe another pill.

But something different is available to you. Something BETTER.

If you're committed to your health and to actually FEELING better without relying on the traditional medical model, it's time to take your health into your own hands.

Shool's out for summer!!! It's time to get those summer bucket lists ready!

Instead of setting goals to lose x amount of pounds or to finally wear that swim suit, let's instead focus on what really matters: time with our family and spending time in nature.

Of course it's important to focus on our health, including weight loss if that's a goal for you. But let's not miss out on what's important in the pursuit of health. What good is it to lose weight if you're miserable and missing time with your family in the process?

Our goal is to help you acheive your wellness goals while you live your real life. We WANT you to go to the BBQs, go on vacation, go to the beach, or whatever else you do to spend time with loved ones this summer. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

We're here to walk alongside you on your journey to a fuller, happier and healthier life. We believe you deserve to live the life of your dreams. Your health shouldn't be what's holding you back.
