Good morning, everyone!!! I have late afternoon appointments available today. Please text me if you’d like one. I don’t expect this offer to last long, lol.
I learned something new today. I love oysters and knew they were incredibly rich in zinc, which is why I consume them weekly. But I didn’t know they were rich in vitamin D, which is really a hormone and not a vitamin. They kinda are nature’s immune system boosters

Oysters. There’s no disguising the fact that they come from the ocean. They have a distinctive, chewy texture and briny taste that you either love or hate. But are they good for your health?

Good morning again, everyone!! As you’re all aware, we have had significant snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures. We are frantically working on snow removal to get parking and the walkway to the office as clear as possible given there isn’t much room to put all the snow.
As such, I am officially declaring this week to be warm and fuzzy pajama week at the office!!
I do have openings available, especially in the next few days. So please text me if you’d like one.
Below is a picture of Molly enjoying the snow about halfway through the storm. She is very much not enjoying it now that the only part of her body above the snow is her head.
Post your favorite snow pics in the comments!!

Good morning everyone!!! This is going to be a pretty long post as I don’t plan to post over the weekend.
1. My office hours end at noon today. I really need this afternoon to prepare my household for the weather issues this weekend. I need to grocery shop and cook enough for the potential of my husband being out plowing for 36-48 hours Sunday into Monday (and possibly losing power during the storm).
2. If you lack appropriate housing or heating in your home, there are many warming shelters in NH. Dial 211 to access those resources.
3. I will be open tomorrow. Please dress warmly, as it’s going to be frigid out there.
4. Many local municipalities are either running low or are out of salt. If the towns are out plowing, please stay off the roads. The plows don’t have better traction than any other vehicle. As the wife of a plow driver, nothing causes them more anxiety than the thought of them losing control of the plow truck in dangerous conditions and crashing into another vehicle.

I’ll be making a big batch of soup later today. What are you doing to get ready for this doozy?

I do have a couple highly coveted late afternoon appointments available today. Please text if you’d like one!!
Pictured below is this morning’s breakfast of homemade almond flour blueberry pancakes, a free range egg over easy, pastured bacon, and organic blueberries on the side. Just a small drizzle of NH maple syrup and it was amazing!!
Today, in between patients, I’ll be making a big batch of chili using locally hunted venison. Hubby ground it for me before leaving for work this morning.

So, I normally post published scientific articles. But in this case, the official government sites are not terribly easy to read, interpret and compare to the items you may have purchased.
Just in case you don’t know, there has been a 20 state recall of some brands of already grated Pecorino Roman cheese due to contamination with Listeria. The recall is not currently in New Hampshire but it is in our border states of Massachusetts and Maine.
The important takeaway, in my opinion, is that it’s best to purchase food in its most whole/intact form. Buy fruit, vegetables, cheese and meats before they’ve been grated, shredded, chopped, ground, etc.
We can use a food processor to help make grating and shredding easier. There are food choppers as well. And lastly, kitchen aid stand mixers have a meat grinder attachment that can be purchased. I know it seems like a lot of work, but I promise it’s worth it given the number of recalls for contamination with E. coli, Salmonella, Listeria, shards of plastic or metal, among other things.
What’s your favorite safe kitchen hack to make food prep easier?

The FDA reclassified the recall as Class I on Jan. 6, nearly two months after first classifying the recall

With 25 years of clinical practice under my belt, one issue I find patients struggle with is needing to eliminate gluten and dairy (specifically cow dairy). Patiens often ask me what they can possibly eat for breakfast specifically. So I’m sharing yesterday’s breakfast for inspiration. Pictured are 2 hard boiled eggs from free range chickens raised on small local farms, a lactofermented pickle, olives, pecans, sheep’s milk feta cheese, and half a red grapefruit (all organic). Interesting article as to why gluten and dairy are so hard psychologically to eliminate in the comments.

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO MY OFFICE HOURS FOR TOMORROW!!!!
One of my kids sustained a work-related injury and needs to see an orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. So, I’ll be starting work at 11 am and closing at 2. Then I’ll be open again from 5-6:30 pm. Thanks so much for understanding and I certainly hope your days are going better than mine. Maybe comment with a joke, meme, funny pic. Anything to lighten the mood 💜

Just wanted to let you all know that there’s a nasty virus going around with a ton of congestion and coughing. I’m seeing many patients with secondary bacterial sinus infections and it’s triggering asthma flares in those with asthma. It’s definitely hit myself and my family hard.
I’m not saying it to scare you, but instead to try and help you prevent it. Here are some wise choices:
1. Eat real food, not processed junk
2. Make sure you sleep around 8 hours every night
3. Try to keep your stress levels manageable
4. Stay hydrated
5. Get daily movement/activity

I’m hoping to be feeling well enough to be able to see whoever needs to be seen next week. And I hope you all stay healthy.

IMPORTANT:
Due to the icy conditions, please park as close to the office walkway as possible. We have salt and sand down, but as you all know, weather conditions have been less than optimal. I will continue to salt throughout the day (and probably tomorrow as well).
Also the entrance to my road is an ice rink. The DPW is aware and is dispatching a driver to salt it again. But it could take a couple hours as other more heavily traveled roads are more vital to tend first. So please take that corner slowly and carefully.

Good morning everyone!!!! A few things:
1. We are anticipating heavy rain and strong winds around noon today. As most of you know, Amherst loses power quite easily. When that happens, I don’t have reception. So if you text me I might not get it until power is restored. Please be understanding if there’s a delay in responding.
2. I do have appointments available tomorrow. Please try to text me this morning if you need one. Otherwise, text me tomorrow morning and I’ll fit you in tomorrow afternoon.
3. Next week is the Christmas holiday and my birthday on the 27th. I will be working Monday 10-2, Tuesday 11-3 and 5-6, Wednesday 8-2. Let me know if you want to schedule!! It’s perfect timing for any kiddos in school who need a physical because they’re on vacation.
