“How have Boost Oxygen’s operations evolved as the company has scaled both nationally and internationally?”

As Mike put it, it’s a huge question with a huge answer.

At our core, Boost Oxygen is a manufacturer. We produce our canisters in Milford, Connecticut, but each finished product is made up of multiple components, such as masks, valves, canisters, the oxygen itself, and protective shrink wrap. Every piece has to arrive at the right place, at the right time, to be assembled, filled, stored, and shipped to customers across the country and around the world. What’s changed most is the scale and complexity of our entire process.

In the early days, Boost Oxygen was a three-person operation doing almost everything ourselves. Today, we ship to all 50 states and more than 50 countries worldwide. What began as a small operation has evolved into a dynamic, fully integrated manufacturing engine. This week’s Question Of The Week is with Fred Davila, our Fulfillment and Distribution Manager that has been with Boost Oxygen since 2019. For this month's Employee Spotlight, we’re proud to highlight James Smith, our Head Mechanic and one of the people who helps keep Boost Oxygen running at full strength every single day.

With nearly 4 years at Boost Oxygen and close to a decade in the mechanical field, James brings deep expertise in pneumatics and hydraulics to our manufacturing team as he helps keep our state-of-the-art oxygen filling machines running daily. His favorite part of the job? The people. James says what makes Boost special is “working with great people and knowing that we manufacture a product that helps individuals. We are a tight-knit group that I call my second family.”

He also values the strong family atmosphere and hands-on leadership that help drive our culture forward.

Outside of Boost, James is just as hands-on. That typically means riding motorcycles, working on his own vehicles, camping, and spending quality time with his twin boys. He’s also been involved in his community as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Rowayton Fire Department since 2012. Check out the third photo to see James in action during a vehicle extraction demo!
