2026 Plunge Weekend Postponement🌨️🌊

Safety has and always will be our top priority at Special Olympics Delaware. Due to severe weather conditions, we, along with our law enforcement and first responder partners, have made the decision to prioritize the safety of all participants, volunteers, athletes, and staff by rescheduling the 2026 Lewes Polar Bear Plunge.

The Lewes Polar Bear Plunge will take place on Sun, Mar 1, 2026, in Rehoboth Beach. All other weekend elements, including Newark packet pick up, the 5K Run to the Plunge, etc. are also postponed to the weekend of February 27-March 1.

We hope to host all elements of the Plunge Weekend Festival and ask for your patience as we confirm availability with the multitude of supporters and sponsors who make all those additional events happen.

If you have made overnight accommodations, please contact the establishment directly to cancel and/or reschedule.

All KSI operations will be back on regular schedule, on Thursday, January 29th.

Due to icy conditions all KSI locations and programs will be closed on Tuesday, January 27th. This includes Milford, Georgetown, off site crews, and transportation. Staff and participants should not report. At this time, we are planning a 1 hour delay for Milford and Georgetown locations on Wednesday, January 28th. Off grounds crews and staff will be notified individually for site-specific delays and closures.

IT WAS POLAR BEAR PLUNGE MANIA AT KSI
KSI showed support for the upcoming Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge with its own "Plunge @ KSI" day. It was full of fun activities like special pictures with Polar Bear Plunge ambassador Lewie P. Bear. Additionally, there was marshmallow igloo building, "snowball" push races, plunge trivia, ice cube curling challenge, our own plunge pool experience, dipping with chips and dip, and hot chocolate after all the fun was done.

KSI HONORS THE MEMORY OF DALLAS ADAMS
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and beloved colleague, Dallas Adams. Mr. Dallas, as he was affectionally known by his KSI family, was an integral part of the vision and mission of KSI more than 11 years. As custodian, he exemplified a spirit of hard-work, dedication, selflessness, humility, grace, caring, and loyalty. KSI was blessed and honored with the daily presence of a man that was a role model of compassionate service to both staff and participants. He will be sorely missed and long remembered as an icon of KSI values and a true representation of humanity’s most-cherished qualities. Mr. Dallas made each of our lives better with his presence.
