Patient Case [Read Time 3 mins]
Panic attacks, immense chest pressure, and unable to live life!
On January 13th 2021 a 36 year old female walked into the office. She had a lot going on with her health wise so we sat down and had a conversation to dive deep into exactly what was going on with her and how it was impacting her life.
Since last October (past 4 months) she had been struggling with several issues. She was unable to exercise anymore. This is someone, who before October, was regularly participating in crossfit, running, kickboxing, cardio, pirates, yoga, and dance. WOW!
Whenever she would try and do physical activity she would get immense pressure in her chest. It would feel like a 100 pound weight would be pressing against her chest. This feeling would also send her into a panic attack. Her heart rate would elevate, she would be completely out of breath, and she would have to get some air because it would take a while for her just to calm down. She stopped doing crossfit all together because of this.
Her sleep was awful. The ONLY way that she would be able to get to sleep would be if she takes advil PM before bed. If she didn’t take OTC meds then she would be in for a very difficult night. It is most certainly NOT good to be taking OTC meds every night for months on end. She would also take it during the day. Tough on that liver!!!
At night time she would have a difficult time breathing because her sinuses would be stuffy. She would have to prop herself up with a pillow in bed in order to breathe.
Her digestion was all over the place. She recently started taking a probiotic which was helping, but still everything wasn’t working the way that it should.
We ran some tests and found that she had some nerve irritation at the top and bottom of the spine. We put a care plan together in order to start to reduce this nerve irritation. We had our first progress exam (retest) the other week and these are the changes we sat down and discussed.
She no longer will get big chest issues/flare ups. She is able to do activities the way that she wants to and when she wants to. The panic attacks are completely gone. She no longer has a rapid heart rate randomly or breathing troubles. We have significantly reduced the amount of OTC medication that we are consuming. We still have a long way to go but she is excited to start to get her life back! She can now start to live life on HER terms instead of being a prisoner of her own body!
When our structure is shifted it can cause irritation to the nerves that it protects. The nerves are the body's electrical system. When we have irritation on the inside it can impact how those nerves actually work. When they don’t work correctly it can lead to health issues. By identifying exact areas of nerve irritation and correcting it, we can get the body to work the way it was designed to! Cool stuff!
