Maxwell: Back in the USA and Friends

Maxwell: Back in the USA and Friends Both have been adopted and truly HOME! Max will now host the page! Hi, we're Maxwell and Tigger! We once lived happily in Stratford, CT with our dad, Brad.

Maxwell and Tigger, originally from Stratford, CT, are back home in Connecticut from Kenya, Africa where they were left stranded after their owner died unexpectedly in the summer of 2023. He found love and moved, with us soon following, to Kenya, Africa in 2021. Our dad came back to the States in 2023 for surgery, and unexpectedly passed away in a motorcycle crash leaving us stranded in Africa. We were originally adopted from two different groups: Zen Dog CT and In the Nic of Time, which is no longer in operation. Zen Dog CT was Tigger's rescue and took responsibility to get us both back home to Connecticut. We stayed with the wonderful people at the Kenya SPCA in Mombasa for a few months while SO many people back in the US helped to fundraise and share our story so that we could come home. It took a village, and the village came through! We thank each and every one of you who donated, shared and followed our story--each one of you helped us get home! In early March of 2024, we were finally cleared to fly home. The Small Five Animal Clinic picked us up from the KSPCA and drove us to the airport in Nairobi for our 15 hour plane ride on Kenyan Airways into JFK in New York. Soon after arrival, we moved into our foster home in Milford, CT. We've been decompressing and getting used to our daily routine. It's much cooler here than Africa, and we like that! Foster mom takes us for daily walks and we have our very own special bedroom with a surplus of sleeping areas to choose from; after all, we're seniors and we like to rest! We've also got a fenced yard and patio with kuranda beds to lounge on--what could be better?! What COULD be better is a forever home! We can be adopted together or separately as we are not bonded. Although we've been through so much together, we are not the very best of friends--we're two older gentleman who tolerate one another. Please message the page if you'd like more info on our perfect retirement home! In the meantime, we'll be posting pictures and videos of our day-to-day and hope you'll follow along!

What a great day! I got sniffies around the neighborhood, AND we went to our secret park! Only it wasn’t so secret today—there were lots of fishermen! I didn’t care, though, still plenty of space for me!🐾😊~Max

Quick update! The doctor gave Mom a call and said the radiologist read the scan. The good news is there is NO evidence of IVDD, but she did agree with my primary vet that the cause of my acute front left leg lameness is my elbow dysplasia and arthritis. I’m still limping a bit, but I feel much better than I did last week. It’s totally possible I just may have tweaked something during my adventures.

The suspected soft-tissue sarcoma is located on the inside of my left thigh; the scan shows it has started to invade the gracilis muscle. Left unchecked, it will continue to grow and likely eventually become painful as there’s nerves running through that area—how fast, no one knows.

My options are to surgically “debulk” it and likely will need radiation to kill off the remaining cells, do only radiation to slow the growth or do nothing and hope it’s a slow-grower. Both my primary vet and the surgeon said if we choose surgery, then now is the time to do it as it will only get larger and more difficult to remove. Hard choices.😩~Max

Hi friends! Today was a pretty good day for me! We walked to the end of my street and back this morning; Mom said I limped very little. I’m definitely feeling better—I even woke Mom up at 5:30am because I wanted her to pet me!! We’ve not yet heard from the vet, but hoping we’ll get a call tomorrow.🐾~Max

Well, what a long day, but I made it! I knew something was wrong when Mom got up while it was still dark, AND I was not served breakfast after my morning potty. I got my CT scan and we’ll wait for the radiologist to read it; but, the doctor said my tumor is pretty embedded into the muscle and she could not safely get good margins. She said she could still remove most of it, then do radiation, but my front legs are pretty painful—especially my left. Before we do anything, we’ll give it a bit of time to see if my front half improves. The doctor was hopeful that I’d have some options, so we’ll wait to hear back from her—hopefully in the next day or two.🐾~Max
