I'm sharing a beautiful story that ran today, ironically from where I grew up in Arkansas, about a high school teacher who goes the extra mile for a mentor challenged with dementia. It's a great example of something we say at Rippl a lot. Dementia is not the end, it's the beginning of something different. Thanks Clay Morton for proving that is so, so true.

So many great, thoughtful, impactful things Clay is proving here. Challenging dementia stigma that is so rampant today, proving someone with a dementia diagnosis can deeply experience life and love throughout their journey (regardless of stage), offering some practical support to a patient and family to help ease the bumps in the road. And, maybe most importantly, honoring the lives and journeys of these special folks.

Such a beautiful, touching story. We need more Clays. This will be the best 3 minutes of your week.

In the post-holiday lull, when the excitement fades and reality sets in, your presence can offer comfort, reassurance and welcome distraction.

Here are 5 tips for dementia caregivers this holiday season from Rippl Care Navigator, Paula B!

1. Stagger visits - large crowds can be overwhelming for someone with dementia. Schedule family and friends' visits to avoid overstimulation.

2. Mind the noise- Keep noise levels low and reduce chaotic activities at home. Too much stimulation can be confusing.

3. Plan for earlier visits and meals - Schedule family gatherings earlier in the day to avoid sundowning behaviors later in the evening.

4. Provide simple activities - Encourage visitors to engage in relaxing activities like coloring, looking at old photos, or making crafts with your loved one.

5. Create a quiet space - Set up a calm, private area where your loved one can retreat to if they need a break from the holiday bustle.
