My friends & I (Suzanne Marie & Cheryll Getsinger) went to Washington DC to be a part of this historic event. I had been watching the Monks for months, they were walking a pilgrimage, a walk for Peace, from Texas to DC. Not a protest, not a riot, just a long, intentional, one foot in front of the other, every single day, walk with the attention to bring focus & awareness on Peace for all beings. They walked much of it barefoot, until feet were too injured or snow made it too cold. They walked with a Dog, Aloka, who was a street dog that joined them & adopted them on their last Peace walk in India. One of the Monks was hit by a car & sadly lost his leg on the journey. I say this because, there was some adversity along the way, hardship & challenge. They didn’t stay in luxury accommodations, but in firehouses & other spaces offered to them along the way & yet they persisted. What started as a quiet, intentional walk with 19 Monks & a dog, grew in the end to thousands and thousands lining the streets to witness their journey. The momentum kept growing, crowds offered the flowers, water & food along the way. Perhaps it’s the same energy that drew me & my friends. This ache in all of our hearts for peace, for unity, for a collective coming together & remembering who we are as humans. We went to DC to be a part of this collective gratitude for their willingness to walk in peace for all of us. (Finish in comments)
