Kate McGrath has been an Occupational Therapist since 2017. She began her career at UW Medical Center - Northwest, working in acute care with patients experiencing traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord and orthopedic injuries, emergent pacemaker placements, and other complex conditions.
While she valued her acute care experience, Kate sought to specialize in a setting where she could build longer-term, one-on-one relationships with patients, which led her to outpatient care and to IRG.
Kate’s passion for pelvic floor and sexual health began during her Master’s program, where she grew interested in sexual health and disability rights. Pelvic floor OT helps patients with daily activities such as dressing, toileting, intimacy, and recreational tasks like golfing or household chores. “We’re all about function,” says Kate. “Our goals might look different from traditional PT, whether it’s lifting a child without leaking, reducing pain with intimacy, or modifying routines to build strength and reduce discomfort. I always look at the bigger picture to adjust behaviors, routines, and introduce adaptive tools.”
While much of pelvic floor therapy involves supporting patients through pre- and postpartum stages—“the bread and butter of the field,” as Kate notes—her practice also addresses a wide range of needs, including gender-affirming care, sexual dysfunction, neurological conditions (such as spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, or ALS), post-stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, and chronic incontinence. She is particularly committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for topics often surrounded by stigma. “I pride myself on putting people at ease and assuring them they’re in safe hands, free from taboo or embarrassment.”
We’re incredibly grateful to have such passionate providers like Kate on our team who have dedicated their careers to helping their patients overcome pain and dysfunction. Thank you Kate!
