❄ Famous Face Friday Ryan White ❄ In the 1980s, when he was 13, he contracted HIV from a blood transfusion known by the name Factor X. Little was known about HIV at the time, and his school banned him from coming. He fought and eventually won his rights to attend school again. From then on until his death, he spoke out about living with HIV and the education of others about HIV. Sadly, one month before his high school graduation, he passed away, but lived 5 years longer than doctors expected. In 1990, Congress passed the Ryan White Comprehensive Emergency Care Act to help people living with HIV get proper medical care and prevent the spread of HIV.

Ryan White was 13 when he was diagnosed with AIDS after a blood transfusion in December 1984. Living in Kokomo, Indiana, doctors gave him six months to live.
