Patricia Frisch PhD Reichian Therapist

Patricia Frisch PhD Reichian Therapist Patricia R. Frisch, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and MFT and an expert in Wilhelm Reich’s theory and techniques. She is located in Marin County, CA,

Several goals come to mind as I launch this page: I want to share an enthusiasm about my work both as a clinician as well as the founder of the Orgonomic Institute of Northern California (OINC), I will share my thoughts about topics important to Orgonomy and clinical work, I will share my teaching perspectives for professionals and hopefully share ideas that contribute to everyone! Another goal, and one not limited to this particular FB page, is the creation and fostering of a place where ideas are exchanged between all of us. I welcome you to these pages and posts! A bit about me. I am a licensed psychologist, MFT, and Reichian (Orgonomist) whose decades-long practice with individuals, couples, families, and groups, integrates mind/body with characteranalytic work. Orgonomy utilizes the principles of Wilhelm Reich, father of somatic psychology, who created a mind/body discipline that incorporates breath, direct muscular intervention and verbal/ emotional expression, creating an interface between psychological conflict, physical illness, chronic pain, depression and stress related symptoms (muscular tension, anxiety, etc.) Reichian therapy is a powerful strategy that works verbally and biophysically to directly alter the cellular memory bank and dissolve negative patterns that manifest as personality/relational difficulties. My biophysical work is paired with present-centered verbal analysis and is contained within a strong, spirited, and honest relationship between patient and therapist. The result is profound character transformation. Patients confront difficult pasts, current problems, and repair the ruptures in emotional self-regulation that occur at the deepest levels from their earliest history. The goals are mindful awareness, insight, and change needed to heal body, mind, and spirit. My style is warm, sometimes directive, intuitive, and always profoundly engaged.

Patricia Rose Frisch
1946 - 2025

Dearest Family and Friends,

It is with a heavy heart we share that Patricia Rose Frisch passed over to the other side on Tuesday afternoon February 25, 2025. She died peacefully at her home in Santa Fe, surrounded by family, and roses.

Patricia suffered from Alzheimer, declining swiftly since her diagnosis two and a half years ago. We are all relieved that her soul is free to be completely herself once again.

She will be cremated as part of a Zen Buddhist ritual on Monday, March 3rd, here in New Mexico. If you feel called, please respond to this email with a written blessing or letter to Patricia as she journeys into the spirit world. We will print out these blessings to include in the cremation process.

We would like to invite you to two upcoming occasions to honor Patricia. Please join us for either, or both, depending on your location and availability. Feel free to forward this email and/or invite others who love Patricia.

Frisch, an accomplished therapist in the Reichian modality, helps the reader discover the wisdom of character styles and shows you how to avoid the most common pitfalls in starting a therapeutic relationship. November 2021: Dreams– Connecting with Your Unconscious Mind
𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀, 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘆.
Dreams give us entry into the mystery of the psyche; we can identify our fears and terrors, unfinished business with friends and family; and take a look into our future landscape, premonitions or glimpses of what may unfold. Dreams are our window into the soul. Dr. Frisch’s blog from March 2016 explains dreams and how our conscious and unconscious minds connect:
𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴: 𝘙𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦
Dreaming is a pathway into the mysteries of our psyche. Dreams and dream analysis help us establish an illuminated relationship with our unconscious. Our relationship with our unconscious is important as our unconscious is often in the driver’s seat affecting many aspects of our life – even if we don’t realize it. Our conscious mind may be, at times, in the backseat as our unconscious emotions, drives and impulses take over. Dr. Carl Jung, a brilliant dream expert, teaches us that the unconscious mind is a powerful internal force that must be responded to and respected or it can flood us – resulting in a feeling of being overwhelmed by our own inner thoughts and feelings. When the psyche is not reckoned with, it may express itself through a persistent variety of physical and mental symptoms that we have difficulty understanding.
We don’t have to seek direction repeatedly from a spiritual master or teacher as we have inner guidance as well. Our dreams give us direction and clarity during times of confusion, revealing possibilities we may not have consciously considered.

Here's some information about Character Analysis from one of Dr. Frisch’s prior Blogs:

How Does Characteranalysis Differ from Traditional Analysis?

A major difference between these two modalities is that Characteranalysis lives and breathes in the here and now and interacts spiritedly with the blatant defensive style and chronic approach of the client.

We learn basic coping strategies early on that are reinforced throughout our lives.

These strategies are carved into our being both mentally and biophysically and create our interface with others. We unconsciously hone patterns of thought, feeling reaction, and behavior that keep us afloat, but not as the master of our ship. Sometimes those patterns are hurtful both to our self and others because they are repeatedly destructive.

Check out Dr. Frisch's September Blog: Extreme Weather Coupled with the Delta Variant Emergency Creates Adversity in our Fall Season

We are haunted and hunted by weather conditions that defy and deny normalcy; normalcy no longer exists and we are stunned by the immediacy of events. We are thrust into an altered reality that immediately becomes a new norm. We have been warned.

We have been paralyzed in the West by vicious wildfires that devour everything in their paths as dried-out brush and terrain due to ongoing drought create a massive fuel supply.

Nothing and no one is spared.

We have witnessed catastrophic flash floods in the Northeast, New York, and New Jersey as climate disaster slams our psyches with visceral images. Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc on Pennsylvania and Connecticut, leaving death in its wake.

The Concept of Armoring in a Period of Mistrust - Dr. Frisch's June 2021 Blog

The CDC issued new guidelines stating fully vaccinated Americans can stop wearing masks, in most situations. What about the multitude who are not vaccinated? Trust is in short supply these days in the midst of continuing Covid-19 cases, as the pandemic has caused severe mistrust, anxiety, isolation, and vaccination resistance. There is a flood of new information on variants, along with world-wide vaccine shortages that stoke the flames of continued threats. Add in the catastrophic dynamics of have’s and have-not’s, racial differences in vaccination rates—and, of course, the politicization that creates severe polarization between parties; all these factors have undermined people’s ability to trust which would enable a greater capacity to work together in a time of crisis and tragedy.

“Fewer than half of Americans over the age of 18 are fully vaccinated.” (Bosman, Mervosh, 2021) The Honor Code mentality demands trust in government, which is severely eroded. Conspiracy theories abound in sectors of the population. The reality of the virus is questioned, and skepticism, cynicism, and paranoia have become normal mind-sets.

The world is not safe so how can we feel safe?

This leads us to the concept of armoring, which is just like it sounds, the adoption of a turtle-shell mentality both mentally and physically, to protect oneself against known and unknown threats. It is a suit of armor insulating us from attack.

We lack openness as our energy does not flow through our mind-body in an open-hearted way. Instead, we habitually protect ourselves, creating distance from others. We become skeptical and cynical, and no longer trust; habits of defense in times of stress. These styles of coping create defensive layers that we are unable to shed. They become intrinsic to how we think, act, and behave. The turtle-shell, the armored style, is the way we are.
