📚 Exciting News! I’m thrilled to reveal the cover of my forthcoming book, Tailoring Treatment to Attachment Patterns—co-authored with Diana Fosha, published by Norton Mental Health and coming March 11, 2025.
Over the last 10 years, I've poured my heart and mind into researching and writing about the vital intersection of attachment theory, neuroscience, and trauma healing. This book is a culmination of that important and meaningful work - offering insight and interventions for anyone in the helping and healing profession. We can heal attachment trauma!
🔬 This isn’t just a book about theory; it’s about transforming how we work with trauma. Together, we can heal attachment trauma and help our clients access the brain's incredible potential for neuroplasticity.
🌌 I want to share about the book cover: I wanted something beautiful, and relevant – and have been drawn to Greg Dunn Neuro Art for years. This piece is named “Cortical Twilight.” We like the image's abstract quality, sheer beauty, and the fact that it is an art work depicting structures of the brain: the cortex and neural circuitry. Dunn’s description of the piece even identifies “cells that keep things regulated,” so apropos for how key in our work is helping patients process emotions in a regulated way. Given that our book talks about how to harness the brain’s potential for neuroplasticity, the elements of designs are well-suited and meaningful. We aim to set the conditions for our patients to have a secure attachment with us, their therapists, in order to heal their insecure attachment – and to have new and corrective experiences which can promote positive neuroplasticity.
🎨 The colors in Cortical Twilight are vibrant – blues, silvers, hints of lavender, and gold - which relates to how we see vitality as an aspect of secure attachment. There are also areas that look like the reflection of light on water. The neuronal structures give an impression of roots. There’s an oceanic feel – with a bit of horizon and a sense of depth. The upper white/violet gives an impression of clouds, even cloud parting perhaps revealing some blues skies, but not literal, and the bursts of yellow gold suggest energy potential, flashes of significance. We love how this gives impressions for so many aspects of the work of psychotherapy.
