Access to an adolescent-centered healthy weight management program, including bariatric or weight loss surgery, helped adolescents with obesity achieve the best long-term outcomes. Regardless of age at the time of surgery, patients who received a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy benefited from less obesity and concomitant organ damage. Adolescents with a parent who received bariatric surgery themselves had a higher weight before weight loss surgery.
