Longevity Personal Fitness the Millburn / Short Hill’s area’s first and only personal training studio to offer a research-based functional fitness program for women and men. At Longevity Personal Fitness the focus is on the movements we do every day: bending, reaching, rotating, squatting, pushing/pulling, and construct exercises that strengthen our ability to do these tasks, challenging our motor control, strength, and coordination. Using proven health science methodology focused on maintaining a high level of mental and physical function, I'll offer options that are safe, fun, and beneficial. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
I want you to exercise in a way that feels good and doesn't wear you down. We'll begin our training together by conducting a simple, physical, full-body assessment to determine which needs are most apparent and address those areas first. Your personal training sessions are then planned to progress week by week focusing on biomechanics, strength, functional movement, and whole-body health. All of my exercise patterns are constructed with a whole-body approach, rather than strengthening parts. You will never find me doing lower-body work one day and upper-body work another. Aging is inevitable…becoming frail and incapable are not.

Aging gracefully requires a smart approach to strength training…it’s a must…in order to do what we want to do and love.

After 45 years of formal weight training, here’s what I know…
-At 45 years old, I noticed a definitive change in my training and how my body responded
✔️My response to strength training and building muscle has dropped
✔️My recovery from old injury “flair-ups” and joint stress just takes longer now
✔️I’m training heavy less frequently
✔️Lighter training sessions (15-20 reps), are more frequent and requires less recovery time
✔️Recovery from injury becomes more complicated and just takes longer now

BIG TAKEAWAY: Injury avoidance is MOST IMPORTANT as we age!

Mike TALK…SMART Coaching

After 35 years of coaching real folks…one of the greatest attributes of a successful client/coach relationship, is a coach who actually HOLDS OFF and DOESN’T PROGRESS a client…when they’re just not ready to do so.

Mind blowing? Nope. Just SMART.

Think about it in these terms…if you can’t lift 200lbs…would you attempt 250lbs…thinking that was a good idea? I would hope not.

Same applies here…”harder” for the sake of harder doesn’t make sense.

One of my FAVORITE new “resets”…Asymmetrical Stance Single Arm RDL.

I’m getting A LOT of what I need with this move:
-Posterior lower pelvis
-Getting my hips “back”…aka…Hinge
-I’m limited in IR on both sides…especially my right
-I’m limited in my SLR on both sides
-I’m driving a “right turn” that I desperately need

And…I get to practice getting my hips to go back simultaneously as my chest moves downward towards the ground.

The “Jersey Squeeze “ is ON!!!

My role as a professional coach, is NOT trying to determine what is or isn’t healthy for someone else. It’s an extremely futile approach to coaching. And btw…a BIG turn-off from the clients perspective.

It’s all judgement…based on what…a “functional” certificate of some kind?

What’s my role then? To help my clients reach THEIR GOALS!
