Conversational scripts for an adult patient who has Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) — this patient is working on recall and use of scripts for three very important events: weekly golf tournaments, the upcoming football season, and of course, his daughter’s wedding 🤍

PPA is a rare neurological condition that is caused by changes within the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, which are largely responsible for language and executive functioning skills. This disease is progressive, and therefore communication challenges may start slowly and will worsen overtime. Treatment focuses on education of the progression of the disease, introducing communication strategies and tools, working with family and caregivers, and last but certainly not least— maintaining effective communication. Treatment is 100% patient and family focused, with goals for areas of need that align with tasks that are personally relevant and important for maintaining quality of life.

Can you tell we loved giving away our favorite toys this month?! 🥹 For our final week of National Speech, Language, Hearing Month, we are giving away TEN of our favorite farm toys!

We love pairing any of the Little Blue Truck books with our farm toys. Top favorites are the Take-Along Farm, Fisher Price Barn, and surprise barns/farm animal toys. We are able to target all kinds of speech & language skills like animal sounds, requesting actions (e.g., help, open, stop/go), making choices, spatial concepts (e.g., on/off, up/down, in/out), farm vocabulary, expanding utterances with actions and attributes, retelling/sequencing stories, answering questions, and more! Puzzles and sticker books are great for expanding language by describing scenes/pictures, identifying animals, following directions with spatial concepts (e.g., that puzzle piece/sticker goes ON the roof, UNDER the chicken, NEXT to the fence). We could do this all day (and we do 😉).
