Looking for some summertime activities that will also boost your mental health. Here are five great things you can do give yourself a mental and emotional lift:

1. Outdoor Exercise
Take advantage of the warm weather by going for a walk, hike, or bike ride. You get the dual mental health benefits of exercise and being outdoors. The best part is, most of these activities can be done for free.

2. Gardening
There’s something incredibly fulfilling about tending to plants and watching them grow. Gardening encourages mindfulness, reduces stress, and provides a deep sense of accomplishment.

3. Dive Into Refreshing Waters
Swimming—whether in a pool, lake, or ocean—has a calming effect on the mind. The water’s soothing embrace is a natural way to ease tension and enhance relaxation. The rhythmic sound of waves, the warmth of the sun, and the feeling of sand beneath your feet offer instant relaxation. It’s a grounding experience that helps clear the mind.

4. A Mindful Picnic
Pack a simple meal and head to the park. Whether its the weekend or your lunch break, enjoy the fresh air, savor the flavors of your food, and immerse yourself in your surroundings to create a moment of peace.

5. Stargazing Escapes
Spend a quiet night under the stars. Whether lying in a backyard hammock or camping in the wilderness, gazing at the cosmos can spark awe and contemplation.

We often use springtime to clean our homes, yards, and declutter. But, spring cleaning can also help our mental health. Here’s how:

- Reduces stress – Clutter can create a sense of chaos, making it harder to focus or relax. Cleaning up can bring a feeling of control and calm.

- Boosts mood – Accomplishing small tasks like organizing a room or clearing out unused items can give you a sense of achievement and satisfaction.

- Encourages productivity – A clean space can improve concentration and motivation, making it easier to tackle other aspects of life.

- Symbolizes a fresh start – Spring is a season of renewal, and decluttering can help you mentally reset and embrace new opportunities.

- Improves sleep – A tidy bedroom can create a more restful environment, which may lead to better sleep quality.

- Supports mindfulness – Cleaning can be a meditative activity, helping you stay present and appreciate your surroundings.

- Strengthens self-care habits – Taking the time to care for your space is an act of self-respect, reinforcing the importance of looking after yourself.

Spring cleaning isn’t just about scrubbing and organizing, it’s about making space for clarity, peace, and renewal. It's about taking care of your self and your space.

Here are some tips to help you manage your mental health during springtime. As the days get longer and warmer, use the following tips to keep your mental health in check:

Spend time outdoors – Whether it's taking a walk, hiking, or simply sitting in the sun, fresh air and sunlight can boost your mood and energy levels.

Stay active – Warmer weather makes it easier to get moving! Consider jogging, biking, or trying out a new outdoor workout.

Enjoy seasonal foods – Eating fresh fruits and vegetables can make a difference in how you feel. Spring brings a great selection of produce—strawberries, asparagus, spinach, and more!

Practice mindfulness – Take a moment to appreciate nature, whether it's blooming flowers or the sound of birds. Spring is a season of growth, and it can remind you to slow down and savor the moment.

Declutter your space – Spring cleaning isn’t just for your home; clearing out clutter can bring a sense of calm and renewal.

Reconnect with others – Socializing outdoors, whether through picnics, weekend trips, or even just casual walks with friends, can boost your sense of connection.

Prioritize rest – Just because it’s a season of activity doesn’t mean rest isn’t important. A good sleep schedule and relaxation time are key to staying balanced.

There have been numerous studies done that show these are the top stressors in life. It is very likely we have all dealt with at least one of these in our lives (and if you are fortunate enough not to, it is coming and you can prepare for it). Identifying and understanding our stressors can help us mentally and physically prepare for them. Here are a few of life’s top sources of stress and how we can reduce their impact:

Death of a Loved One - There is no way to minimize the impact of the death of a loved one. Whether it is sudden and unexpected or drawn out due to illness, it is hard. Cherishing the time we have with loved ones, overcoming disagreements, and minimizing regrets related to those close to use does help take some of the sting out of the loss.

Loss of a Job - Losing a job often impacts our sense of self, accomplishment, and our own capabilities. To minimize the financial impact of a job loss, ensure you have savings to support yourself while you transition to your next employer. Improve job searches by having an updated resume ready to send to potential employers.

Divorce - Like death, divorce brings a sense of loss and many unknowns. Regardless of how healthy your marriage seems, counseling can help ensure both partners are working together to build a strong relationship that can overcome challenges.

These are a few of the challenges life may throw at us. However, we can be prepared and ready to face them head on. If you need help with any of these or other stressors in your life, our team is here to help you overcome them. Request an appointment today

When we look at all the ways we can improve our mental health, attitude, and mood, one of the most overlooked, yet also most impactful, is the food we consume. And this is not just the type or quality of food we eat, but also how often and how much food we eat. For example, if we are constantly skipping meals or eating a restrictive calorie diet, we can find ourselves feeling angry and irritable or as we often call it “hangry”. Conversely, overeating, eating low-nutrient or “unhealthy” foods can make us feel sluggish.

Our relationship with food, health, and our physical appearance can be a major source of anxiety and stress in our lives. Our friends at PESI () have provided the following tips to improve our mood with food and reassess our relationship with food.

If you feel like you need someone to talk with and help with your current mental load and the challenges in your life, we are here to help. Learn more about our team of therapists at the link below and request an appointment today:
