What are your life dreams? Do you know what your partner’s dreams are? Do they differ from yours?

Envisioning your life together isn’t something that you do one time. No matter how long you’ve been together, you can always share new hopes and dreams about your future.

Find time to sit down with your partner and ask them to think about their dreams in life. You may find you share some of those dreams with them, and you may find that your partner’s dreams differ from yours. Discuss how each of you can support the other in their life dreams.

Here are a few ways you can support your partner to make life dreams come true:

Every relationship goes through stages, and the amount of physical and emotional intimacy present in the relationship can ebb and flow.

If you and your partner have drifted apart, you might be wondering how to reignite the spark.

So what’s the #1 way to rebuild or strengthen your intimate connection? Increase the fondness and admiration in your relationship.

Couples who report feeling love, appreciation, and admiration from their partner also reported more passion and s*x in the relationship.

Here’s a few ways to boost the fondness and admiration in your relationship today:

Give your partner a genuine compliment.

Catch your partner doing something “right” and thank them.

Tell your partner you love them.

Share a favorite memory from your past together.

Tell your partner how proud you are of them or how proud you are of the relationship.

Be physically affectionate with your partner. Try a six-second kiss!

Express appreciation for the ways they have supported you now or in the past.

Surprise them with a gift or love note just because you thought about them.

Reach Your Goals

What do you want to see more of in your relationship? Intimacy, closeness, trust, friendship?

What do you want to see less of? Arguments, silence, misunderstandings, criticism?

A weekly relationship check-in with your partner can help you reach these goals.

This weekly check-in has three vital sections:

1. Warm-up. Start the conversation with appreciation for each other and celebrations of what’s going well. This sets the tone for the rest of the conversation.

2. Understanding. Before you come up with solutions, you have to understand each point of view and agree on what problem you’re solving together. Take turns as Speaker and Listener. Resist the urge to persuade your partner of your viewpoint, as it is generally counterproductive. Try to find mutual understanding instead, even if you don't agree.

3. Compromise. Now that you understand your partner’s perspective, you can manage the problem together. If you bring a perpetual problem to the meeting, try to find a temporary compromise and agree to revisit it later.

Important note: Take breaks if you find that you and/or your partner are becoming flooded. A positive (win-win) outcome is much more likely if partners aren’t overwhelmed in the process.

Be gentle with each other and ease into it, especially if you don’t already practice regular check-ins.

Self-Care Isn’t Selfish! 🌿

Taking time to care for yourself helps you recharge, stay focused, and maintain a healthy mindset.

Here are 5 simple ways to recharge your mind and body today:

1️⃣ Take a 10-Minute Mindfulness Break 🧘‍♀️
Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Just a few minutes can reduce stress and boost your energy.

2️⃣ Step Outside 🌞
A short walk or sitting in the sun can refresh your mind and reconnect you with nature.

3️⃣ Drink Water 💧
Stay hydrated! It’s a small step that has a big impact on your physical and mental well-being.

4️⃣ Write It Down 📝
Jot down 3 things you’re grateful for today. Gratitude can shift your perspective and uplift your mood.

5️⃣ Unplug 📱
Set your phone aside and enjoy a moment of screen-free time. Use it to read, stretch, or simply relax.

Take a moment to think about your relationship. Are you happy? Are you getting there?

According to decades of research, Gottman pinpointed that happy relationships include these 5 things:

1. Happiness isn’t found in grand gestures, but in the small everyday moments of connection. The happiest couples build strong relationships by turning towards each other daily.

2. Avoiding conflict doesn’t make you happier, and it isn’t about whether or not you fight. It’s about how you manage and repair conflict. Happy couples make and accept repair attempts and maintain the positive perspective to manage arguments and make compromises together. They work together as a team.

3. Rituals of connection can grow happiness. Habits like drinking your morning coffee together or a shared nightly bed routine, as well as big traditions to celebrate holidays or birthdays, are what can bring you closer.

4. Happy couples have fondness and admiration for each other, and tell each other what they appreciate and love about each other regularly.

5. People in happy relationships have shared life dreams that they work towards together, supporting each other every step of the way. They embrace their journey, both the bad and good times, together.

Which one of these can you work on this year together?
