Hello all you beautiful Facebook people! I wanted to let it be known that I will not be opening my practice until an antidote for the Covid-19 virus is available and testing is more effective.
I have been scouring different resources since I closed my doors for a plan or any further understanding of this disease as well as its survival rate. Since this all began, nothing has changed about the inherent risks of giving and receiving massage therapy during this pandemic, except that we now better understand more of the risks associated to COVID-19 and massage therapy. It is for the safety of my clients, myself and my community that I chose to stay closed.
Covid-19 is a contagious virus, with no cure. It's the asymptomatic aspect of this virus that makes this decision, easier to make. Nurses, doctors, every person working closely to infected (and the unknowingly infected) folks with masks they change out daily and other protective gear. Even with all the protective measures the medical community could muster, front line workers are still being infected. People are walking around without knowing that they carry something deadly to others.
Massage/Muscular therapy has no safety measures to offset the work we do. There are no plastic barriers to a process that is 100% person to person contact! I don't make this decision with a light heart. Since this pandemic unfolded, there have been tears, indecision, deliberation and finally I had to reflect on what I'm willing to risk and what I am not. You may or may not agree with this decision, but I'm hoping that sacrificing this way will help save even one life. Be well. Be safe. Much love to you and yours!
