✨🌿N.C. Herb Association’s 40th Anniversary🌿✨

Founded in 1986, our commodity group is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year! 🥳 Come join us at Wild Herb Weekend for a weekend of learning, community, and connection with nature! It will be held July 24-26 this year.

Our keynote speaker is Phyllis D. Light who will give a talk on “Finding your place in the land.” This talk will dive into the ways that people from all backgrounds can come together and meet one common goal: to spread the knowledge and use of plants and their medicine. Phyllis is a fourth-generation herbalist with a masters degree in Health Studies, education and promotion, nutrition, and healthcare.

There is rising interest in growing hibiscus roselle commercially in North Carolina. So, Jeanine Davis with the NC Alternative Crops and Organics Program at NC State University, is considering starting a research project on it. She would like to engage NCHA members in it, too. To help her decide whether to move forward with this idea or not, she needs some information about who is growing it and the level of interest. So, are you growing it for sale in NC? If yes, please tell us what county you are in, if you are growing it for leaf and/or calyx harvest, and if you are growing it in the open or in a high tunnel. Thanks. ❓Did you know?!❓
The Valle Crucis Conference Center is a very historic property. 📖

This is one of the meeting places for classes, the Crab Orchard Hall. It was built in the early 1900s and has been used in the past as a missionary classroom, a chicken house, a hay barn, and a day school until it was finally renovated in 1998 for use as a meeting space. How cool!

The history and charm of this property just adds to the vibe of the entire weekend! Plants, just like historic places definitely have a story to tell! 🌿🌻🌹
