Weather advisory:
Please use caution over the next couple days during this intense heat!
1. Avoid prolonged visits outside.
2. Stay in the shade, under umbrellas or trees.
3. Hydration is a must. Drink lots of water or electrolyte replacement drinks such as Gatorade.
4. Wear loose cotton clothing, sun glasses and a hat.
5. Apply sunscreen every 2 hours or more frequently if needed do to sweating.
6. If possible, stay inside an air conditioned building, if you don’t have air conditioning, check out the library, senior centers, shopping mall, restaurants and coffee houses.
7. Please check on the very young and the elderly, they may not be okay!
8. Please, please, please, watch your animals in this heat, even the grass can get to be 100 degrees. It only takes seconds to burn the skin off of their feet. Bring them indoors if possible, give them shade, fill their water bowls frequently with COLD water. Avoid long walks, plug a fan in for them. They depend on you to keep them safe. Remember, if you think the heat does not affect them…put on your coat and walk barefooted outsidefor at least 30 minutes to see how you tolerate it.
SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE IN A HUMAN
1. Headache
2. Dizziness
3. Nausea
4. Vomiting
5. High body temperature
6. Hot, red, dry or damp skin
7. Fast, strong pulse
8. Muscle cramps
SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE IN ANIMALS
1. Panting hard and fast heart rate
2. Drooling, reddened gums/mucous membranes
3. Loss of coordination
4. Muscle spasms
5. Fatigue and weakness and collapse
6. Vomiting and diarrhea
7. Seizures and death
