Venny Ford came to our Jersey City center feeling down, sharing that treatment for his stroke was delayed due to an insurance issue. He spoke about how independent he used to be, playing basketball regularly, and how difficult it has been to suddenly need help with daily tasks such as standing up from a chair.

Early on in his rehabilitation journey, standing up required assistance, but with encouragement, motivation and guided exercises from Physical Therapist Mowda Fadl, Venny could eventually perform a sit-to-stand completely on his own!

Venny is well on his way toward regaining his independence and his smile and excitement in that moment said it all.

Trinity Mickens is a collegiate ballroom dancer who struggles with limited mobility in her ankles. She has noticed difficulty with transitional movements on the dancefloor which were affecting her performance.

As a previous patient, Trinity came to Kessler Rehabilitation's Wayne center to work with Physical Therapy Assistant and Performing Arts Specialist Brianna Hughes. Together, they came up with a plan to work on increasing Trinity's ankle mobility to help with performance.

Trinity has been working on deep squats into a heel raise and single-leg balance with upper body movement. Now, she's heading back to school feeling more confident to start her ballroom season.

Dealing with limited mobility in your ankles? You can try these exercises as well!

Charlie Saul is an outfielder for Division I Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. As a freshman, Charlie appeared in 49 games, making 47 starts for the Bulldogs. He racked up 46 hits on the season, including seven doubles, four triples, six home runs and 34 RBIs to earn All-America East second team honors and a spot on the on the conference's all-rookie team.

Amazingly, Charlie accomplished that memorable season despite dealing with hip pain for most of the spring. At the end of the season, the New Jersey native decided to get hip surgery followed by physical therapy at our center in Emerson. He worked primarily with Physical Therapist and Center Manager Mina Belfert, a clinician that he trusts and has worked with previously.

After a few weeks of rehabilitation, Mina was connected with Bruce Faulkner, center manager and physical therapist in Fair Lawn, for a VALD force place assessment for Charlie. Bruce and Mina collaborated, devising an efficient treatment plan for Charlie’s muscles based on real-time, objective measurements.

Charlie helped Bryant to a 36-19-1 record a season ago and is looking forward to getting back on the field next spring!
