1. Layer Smart to Avoid Hunching
• Bulky coats can make you round your shoulders.
• Choose lighter, layered warmth so you don’t collapse forward.

2. Chin Down, Not Forward
• Cold wind makes people “turtle” their head.
• Keep your chin slightly tucked, not jutting out.

3. Balance Your Load
• Heavy bags pull you off-center.
• Use a backpack with both straps or lighten your purse.

4. Neutral Spine = More Warmth
• Standing tall improves circulation—your body actually stays warmer when aligned.
• Think: ribcage stacked over hips.
5. Step With Purpose
• Icy sidewalks make people tense and crouch.
• Walk with shorter, aligned strides to stay upright and stable.

6. Hands Out of Your Pockets
• Hands in pockets rounds your shoulders and reduces balance.
• Wear warm gloves so your arms can swing freely.

7. Reset Your Posture Indoors
• After time in the cold, do:
◦ 5 shoulder rolls
◦ 5 slow inhales while lengthening your spine
◦ Gentle chest-opening stretch

Lumbar Support Tips for Couch Time & Holiday Movie Night
Protect Your Back This Winter!

1. Support Your Low Back
• Place a small pillow, rolled towel, or folded blanket against your lower spine.
• Aim for a gentle inward curve—not forced, just supported.
2. Scoot Your Hips Back
• Sit with your hips touching the backrest before reclining.
• Avoid perching on the edge (it collapses the low back).

3. Neutral Spine Recline
• If you lean back, keep your upper back supported too so your lower spine doesn’t have to “hold the slump.”
• Slight recline > deep slouch.

4. Elevate or Bend Your Knees
• Place feet on the floor or use a small ottoman.
• Bent knees reduce pressure on the lumbar discs.

5. Avoid “C-Shape Couch Curling”
Signs you’re doing it:
• Tailbone tucked under
• Shoulders rounding
• Head craning forward
Try to reset every 20–30 minutes.

6. Micro-Movements Help
• Shoulder rolls
• Gentle pelvic tilts
• Switch sides if you lean into an armrest

7. Break Every Episode
Stand up, stretch, refill your drink—1–2 minutes resets your spine.

Unlike muscles or nerves, bones don't have direct sensations. That means your spine can experience degeneration without you feeling it-until it affects nearby nerves or muscles. When the spine gets "stuck" in misalignment, it doesn't function properly.
Over time, this leads to faster aging of the spine, causing problems like:
• Arthritis - The joints wear down, leading to stiffness and discomfort.
• Disc Degeneration - The cushioning between vertebrae breaks down, reducing flexibility.
