Having an optimistic partner may stave off cognitive decline!
A happy partner may indeed mean a happy life, but what if it helps with physical and mental health in old age, too? A new study suggests that it can do just this.

Stress is sneaky! It can easily creep up on you so that being frazzled and overwhelmed starts to feel normal.
In small doses, stress can actually be useful as it helps you to stay focused, alert and increases energy. But when stress becomes chronic though, it can damage your health, mood and relationships. Basically, your overall quality of life!
When you are stressed, adrenaline runs through your body. Your heart beats fast, your body tenses up and one very important effect is that your thoughts race. Racing thoughts make thinking clearly difficult and that is when you get overwhelmed and stressed. Doing a quick breathing exercise clears your thoughts and lets you take a time out so you can come back to the situation and deal with it calmly.

Inadequate preparation of lectin-containing foods, especially beans, poses a public health risk, said the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in a recent opinion report. The information follows reports from several European countries of foodborne illness linked to lectins.
The agency found that phytohemagglutinin (PHA), a principal lectin in beans, affects the small intestine, pancreas, and immune system in animals. Research also suggested that consuming undercooked beans may trigger acute gastrointestinal illness and allergic reactions in humans.

Adequate food processing, such as soaking and boiling beans, deactivates lectins, making food safe to consume, EFSA wrote.

Regular exercise following a diagnosis of breast, prostate, or colon cancer has been linked to improved survival, and the same appears to be true for seven less commonly studied cancers, new data suggests.
A higher level of moderate-to-vigorous leisure-time physical activity after a cancer diagnosis was associated in studies with a lower risk for cancer mortality among survivors of bladder, endometrial, lung, and ovarian cancers, with benefits seen even at activity levels below current physical activity recommendations.
Additionally, lung and re**al cancer survivors who met physical activity guidelines after their diagnosis had a lower risk for cancer mortality, even if they did not meet guidelines before diagnosis.Engaging in leisure-time physical activity at levels equal to or greater than current recommendations was associated with a lower risk for cancer mortality among survivors of oral, re**al, and ovarian cancers compared with no physical activity, though not all associations were statistically significant. Similar results were observed among kidney cancer survivors, although no findings reached statistical significance.

New data suggest that even modest levels of exercise after a cancer diagnosis may benefit survivors of less commonly studied cancers.

Key takeaways:
Over the long-term, older adults in the ASPREE study had a significantly higher risk for cancer mortality if they took low-dose aspirin compared with placebo.
Low-dose aspirin had no impact on cancer incidence.

Long-term evaluation of the randomized ASPREE trial and an observational follow-up study confirmed prior results that low-dose aspirin did not reduce cancer incidence among older adults and significantly increased risk for cancer mortality. However, individuals who received low-dose aspirin and did n...
