✨3 Months ✨

Goodbye 4th trimester, it’s been my pleasure. I don’t know if it feels like it flew by or if it’s been forever. What I do know is that every day I look at this perfect, tiny human and am amazed that I grew her inside of me. It doesn’t even seem real and it probably never will. Our bodies are absolutely incredible and I don’t think we give them enough credit for what they are capable of doing.

We have come a long way in 3 months. She began rolling over at 9 weeks, she’s already starting to scoot, her teeth are making moves, she’s sturdy and strong, she’s already super silly and laughs when appropriate - and when it’s not, because let’s be real, she’s my child.

Some days are absolutely exhausting, others fly by. During the first 6 weeks I felt so nourished as my postpartum planning really paid off. But I probably should have prepared better for weeks 6 through 12 😳! [Note to self: more food, more water, more tea.]

Every time you think your getting the hang of your baby’s day-to-day, they decide it’s time to change it up. This brings a whole new meaning to being adaptable and gentle with yourself. Any expectations can really just be waved in your face and thrown out the window. Giving anyone an ETA? Forget about it...learn to get flexible with your schedule early on.

365 days ago Poplar got her genes. 👖

Every woman should have the right to choose whether they conceive a child or not. The reality: not every woman has the tools they need to make this decision.

And why not? It’s simple: we were not taught to. During health classes we were served fear tactics and the famous “you can get pregnant ANY day of the month.” Young women need to be taught more about their bodies and their cycles. They need to be able to act with sovereignty. They need to not rely on systems that will let them down.

My pregnancy journey started years before I was actually ready to grow another human. I took a deep dive into understanding my cycles, playing with my food, and focusing on my mental and physical health; as well as a lot of unlearning and relearning about myself, about the world. This ultimately lead me to the work I do today and finding the sweet spot with my clients: pre-conception.

While this is my sweet spot, not all of my clients want to have a baby right now – or ever. Often the really just want to ditch hormonal contraceptives and keep their womb room to themselves. If this sounds like you, let’s chat. Take charge of your health. Take charge of your fertility. No one knows you better than yourself, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I came across a great post from reminding me of this after my birth: “For every birth video you watch where a women calmly breathes her baby into the world make sure you watch one where she begs, pleads, roars, swears, doubts and works incredibly hard to meet her baby.”

As we get ready for baby I am also getting ready to take a break from Facebook. Sometimes it is too easy to get sucked in, but there are a lot of projects to finish around here as we await this little babe’s arrival.

I am so excited to meet the tiny human my body has been growing and protecting through the past 9 moons. Will she make it to 10?! Time will tell. 🌕

My return will be slow once she is here, but I can’t wait to share this new adventure with you all!

Postpartum Planning✏️🗓

I am no noobie to postpartum planning. This something I have done with my clients for years. And while I have thought about and begun planning my own postpartum since BEFORE I was pregnant - which *really* needs to be normalized - it’s time to start getting real serious about it!

Today marks 28 weeks, the beginning of the third trimester. Where has the time gone?! It’s fun getting to revisit these really awesome books📚, plan and stash what I want in my freezer, and navigate what my support network will look like once this babe arrives earthside. I love how all of this is unfolding. ❤️

Ovulation is essential. It’s natural. It’s not just for baby making. And our bodies expect it.💥

One of the topics I get really passionate about is the menstrual cycle. Your menstrual cycle is a vital sign. Period. It is a reflection on your overall health. The natural ebb and flow of hormones through our cycles promotes the long-term health of our bones, brain and cardiovascular system, as well as regulating immune function, reducing inflammation and supporting thyroid, brain, bone and breast tissue. 🤯

And why do so many of us interrupt this cycle with hormonal birth control (HBC)? BECAUSE WE WERE NEVER TAUGHT THE REAL DEAL ABOUT OUR CYCLES.

So many of us were failed as teenagers. We were told you can get pregnant anytime of the month. We we’re prescribe HBC for painful and heavy periods and acne on our faces. We were told this was the only answer to “balancing your hormones” and “regulating your period.” We weren’t told about the awful side effects, that it really just shuts off your cycle, and the importance of letting our bodies ebb and flow like they are meant to.

But this isn’t the only way. We can have periods that don’t knock us down. We can have nice skin. We can nourish our hormonal balance. We can let our bodies flow and feel empowered. I promise you that.

✨22 weeks✨

What has this journey looked like so far?

Rest. Taking pockets if time to slow down. Sometimes that means an afternoon nap. Sometimes it means leaving a day open with no obligations on my calendar. Most days it means staying in bed until 9am 🤷🏼‍♀️

Movement. Gentle yoga classes. Random bouts of stretching throughout the day. Wandering in the woods. Moving with intention. Walking.

Breath. Focusing on my breathing throughout the day. Pausing to take deep, intentional breaths. Focusing on diaphragmatic breathing. Filling from my pelvic floor to the tops of my lungs and back out again.

Chiropractic care. My weekly adjustments are by far my favorite part of my prenatal care. It’s a must in my book.

Food. Focused nutrients that are important for growing a baby. Many of my meals through preconception and pregnancy have been inspired by ’s Real Food for Pregnancy. I also have been going against the typical “guidelines” and enjoying biweekly trips to for raw milk. It’s so delicious and nourishing. Chock full ‘o so many of those nutrients this growing babe is craving. 🤰

Intuitive action. Doing what feels right for me. I am in charge of me, my health, my pregnancy, my birth. I take responsibility for all of it. I am not relying on others to tell me how I feel, what I should do, to be my “saviors”...more on that in future posts.

And it’s all been fu***ng awesome. A breath of fresh air. A deep sense of empowerment and trust in myself. What this journey should be. And this is why I love guiding others in living the journey that’s right for them.

You know what’s not normal? Planning for pregnancy. But why? We spend 1+ years planning for a “perfect” wedding that is just ONE day. And when it comes to one of the biggest life decisions many doctors still recommend coming off hormonal contraceptives when you are ready to get pregnant. But what’s missing from this conversation? The two big things that stand out to me are nutrient depletion and regulating your menstrual cycle.

Other things that could be addressed: mindset, movement, chiropractic care, reducing stress, your support network through pregnancy and postpartum, connecting with your spirit babies, connecting with your partner, and whatever else is important to you before embarking on such a journey.

If you know you want to have a family one day, then it’s not too early to start this process. It’s time to tune into your body and hormones. Ditch hormonal contraceptives. Get to know your menstrual cycle. Focus on building up your nutrient stores. Move your body. Get outside. Breathe.

21 weeks. I’ve definitely been procrastinating on this past. But I can’t wait to dive deeper into this pregnancy with you!

Look out for posts on all of the topics I love nerding out on - especially conscious conception/planning for pregnancy. This is by bread and butter.

After years of doing this work I have finally been able to experience firsthand how the time BEFORE conceiving really impacts your pregnancy. When asked how I was feeling during the first trimester, I often felt kind of guilty for how easy it’s been for me. But in doing this work I think more people need to hear that it can actually be pretty amazing and: YOU DON’T HAVE TO FEEL LIKE S**T. 💩
