In August of 2019, Camp Daybreak campers and volunteers said “See you later!” after a long, exhausting, inspiring, & fun week of camp. In Camp Daybreak tradition, we’ve always said see you later knowing that we will reconvene again the next summer, & that Vermont is a small state where you never know when you’ll run into somebody from Daybreak. However, that year, nobody could have predicted what the
future would bring.
One global pandemic and six years later, Camp has seen a lot of changes. We have run two years of remote programming, & incorporated our own nonprofit with 501c3 status & a committed Board of Directors. Together, we have fundraised & found a location for a in person camp program. We have done all of this with a vision of bringing the Camp Daybreak experience back to the amazing kids of Vermont, to fill a need we know exists in summer programming for youth. We are fueled by heartwarming memories of what camp means to all of us, volunteers & campers alike, & a fierce desire to offer camp in person again, fulfilling the promise of the last time we said see you later.
With both sadness & practicality, we have determined that we are unable to run the Camp Daybreak program we planned for this summer. There are many factors that we have been working tirelessly to problem-solve to get camp up & running. Due to challenges with recruitment of campers & volunteers, & other factors, we have made the tough decision to cancel plans for camp this summer.
While this news is heartbreaking, we remain committed to the young Vermonters who rely on Camp Daybreak for connection, growth, & joy. Our eyes are set on 2026, & we are determined to build a program that is sustainable, impactful, & responsive to the evolving needs of the youth we serve.
As we look ahead, we will need your help. Planning, fundraising, outreach, and organizing will all be critical in bringing Camp Daybreak back stronger than ever. We sincerely hope you will stay connected with us & continue to be part of the journey forward.
Thank you for the love, laughter, and light you bring to Camp. Camp Daybreak exists because of people like you, & it will thrive again because of you, too.
