The Prism Program

The Prism Program The PRISM Program connects LGBTQ+ youth to trained peer specialists who can provide
support Peer support is person-centered and strength-based.

A peer specialist offers support and
guidance based on their own first-hand experience with mental health and/or substance use
challenges. Peer specialists do not diagnose or prescribe treatment, but they can listen, validate,
and help you set and reach your own goals in your healing journey. Peer specialists who identify
as LGBTQ+ can use their own knowledge to help others with things like coming out, finding
gender affirming care, relationship issues, and more. Young LGBTQ+ people can learn a lot
from older mentors who have faced similar challenges. Peer support can empower youth to heal
themselves and navigate resources that they need. Instagram and request forms are all located here:

The death of Nex Benedict (they/them) was a result of transphobic violence from their peers and a lack of action from their school and hospital staff. Nex’s death highlights the ever-growing need of protection and support for trans youth. PRISM is here to be a pillar of support for anyone needing it. We will not stop moving towards a future that protects trans youth and their freedom. We see you, we celebrate you.

This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we lift up trans and nonbinary folks living with disabilities. Trans people experience higher rates of disability than non-trans people. As we mark this international day of recognition, we honor the intersections, challenges, and persistence of trans and nonbinary people living with disabilities.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day when we take time to honor those we have lost and to rededicate ourselves to fighting for trans rights. This year, we would especially like to honor Brazil Johnson, Toi Davis, Regina "Mya" Allen, Cashay Henderson, and Chyna Long, women who should still be with us.

Photo IDs: All photos have a solid black background. Slide 1. A pink, white, and blue flower is in the top right corner. The Prism Program logo with a prism refracting a rainbow is in the lower left corner. Text reads, "Transgender Day of Remembrance November 20, 2023." Slide 2. Text reads, "Wisconsin people to life up this year: Brazil Johnson, Toi Davis, Regina "Mya" Allen, Cashay Henderson, Chyna Long. They should still be with us. We will continue to uplift their memory by fighting for trans lives." Slide 3 includes a graphic detailing the TDOR event at Zao MKE Church with doors opening at 6:30 PM. Text reads, "Celebrate the lives lost this year with a candlelight vigil and access community resources present during the service." Slide 4. And we will not stand for the picking and choosing of rights. We still have hope. Sage Dolan-Sandrino." Slide 5. Text reads, "We are here to support you. Call or text: 414-336-7974 or email: prism@mhawisconsin.org from 10 AM - 10 PM any day. Zoom support groups Tuesday evenings at 7 PM CT. Zoom Meeting ID: 841 2055 4336" END ID.

We wish we had some better news to share. The Senate has scheduled hearings on SB 479 and SB 480 on Thursday October 12th at 11:30am.

Senate Bill 479 - Relating to: a civil cause of action for a minor injured by a gender transition procedure.

Senate Bill 480 - Relating to: prohibiting gender transition, medical intervention for individuals under 18 years of age.

Senate Committee on Health - 411 South at 11:30am - SB 479 & SB 480

The hearing will be happening at the same time as the floor vote on the bills banning transgender athletes and gender affirming care in the Assembly, which starts at 10:00am.

If you can come and testify, please do so. If you want to submit written testimony please written testimony to testimony@fairwisconsin.com by 5pm on Wed if possible.

If you are able to come in person please stop by 425 South West (same room as last week) if you need assistance or have questions. This room will also serve as a quiet space away from the hearings.

It's no coincidence that the Senate hearings are scheduled on the same day and time as the Assembly floor vote. They are trying to divide us and wear us down.

Please do what you can to push back against these harmful bills.

And to our trans youth and their families, please know that you are loved and there are a heckuva lot of people fighting for you.
