What would your anxiety look like if it had a body?
Spiky? Squishy? Loud? Tiny? Weirdly adorable?
For May’s Creative Commons, we’re making Emotion Creatures — small clay creatures inspired by the feelings we carry around inside.
Anger might need claws.
Sadness might need a shell.
Joy might need too many eyeballs.
Anxiety might need six legs and no plan.
No artistic skill required. Just curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to make something a little strange.

Spent Friday at the Second Annual Innovations in Mental Health Day Conference put on by Newport Healthcare.

I had the chance to speak about how we’re actually using TTRPGs in therapy—not “therapeutic D&D,” but real TTRPG therapy groups grounded in intention and clinical work.

We had ~ almost 100 clinicians in the room playing, not just listening. Getting a felt sense of what happens when story, relationship, and nervous system work all come together.

I also shared a bit about our Tabletop Integrative Framework (TIF)—the language and structure we’re building to make this work more consistent, more intentional, and more effective across groups.

Honestly… really fun. Really energizing. And a good reminder that this work is growing.

More to come.

TTRPG THERAPY GROUP 🎲
Relational Skills for Anxious Teens (Ages 13–15)

Let’s do something different.

This small group is built for teens who feel anxious in social situations but want to connect. We’re not just talking about social skills—we’re practicing them in real time through story, teamwork, and shared adventure.

Using a beginner-friendly Dungeons & Dragons game, teens will:
• Learn grounding tools to manage anxiety
• Practice communication, teamwork, and speaking up
• Build confidence in a supportive, structured space
• Work toward personal goals while in the game

📅 Starts Thursday, June 18
🕒 12:30–3:00 PM (10 weeks)
👥 5–6 teens
💲 $50/session + $75 intake
📍 Private pay (superbills available)

This is therapy—just not the kind that feels like sitting in an office talking the whole time.

👉 Learn more or get started through the contact page on our website.

So much fun creating these weird little emotion creatures on a dark, stormy Bay View night.

There’s something about turning feelings into something you can actually see and hold… it hits different.

Thanks to everyone who came out, got a little messy, and shared the space with us. We really appreciate you all.

Keep an eye out—we’ve got more Creative Commons coming soon.

✨ Exciting news at The Therapeutic Workshop! ✨

We’re really happy to welcome Amanda Wright to the TTW team. Amanda is an art therapist who also brings training in sandtray therapy, offering creative and developmentally supportive ways for kids to explore feelings, process experiences, and build resilience.

Amanda will be working with kids ages 8 and up, along with teens and adults, and currently has some evening availability for new clients.

At The Therapeutic Workshop, we believe therapy should feel human and accessible. Amanda’s creative, thoughtful approach fits beautifully with the kind of work we care about here.

If you’re looking for support for your child (or yourself), you can fill out the contact form on our website to get started with a free 30-minute consultation.

Emotion Creatures — Creative Commons (April)

What would one of your emotions look like if it were a creature?

At our next Creative Commons, we’re sculpting weird little clay emotion creatures and getting curious about what our feelings might look like if they had a body, personality, or story.

No art skills needed.
Just curiosity, clay, and a room full of creative humans.
