Region 3 Director Nominee: Chris Fortner, Certified Anesthesia Technician
Chris currently serves as Anesthesia Manager at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Lee University and began his healthcare career as an Emergency Department Technician at Roper Hospital in Charleston. He later joined the OR team there as an Anesthesia Technician and became ASATT certified. Chris has also worked at Palmetto Health Richland and the Medical University of South Carolina, where he gained experience in the heart and vascular tower and assisted with heart transplant surgeries. Since 2015, he has traveled as a Certified Anesthesia Technician, working in 36 operating rooms across 10 states. He brings extensive experience in trauma, transplants, cardiac, pediatric, ambulatory, and general surgical cases.

Region 1 Director Nominee: Elizabeth Fumicello, Certified Anesthesia Technologist
Elizabeth has been part of the medical field for over 15 years and is currently a Certified Anesthesia Technologist at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is an active member of ASATT and participates in several hospital committees focused on safety, sustainability, and innovation. Having grown from Clinical Assistant to Technologist, Elizabeth understands the value of education, teamwork, and strong leadership. She believes in the power of community and collaboration and is committed to advocating for the profession, supporting educational pathways, and strengthening the voice of technologists and technicians across the region.

President-Elect Nominee: Sue Christian, Certified Anesthesia Technologist
Sue has served in multiple leadership roles on the ASATT Board of Directors, including Region 3 Director and two terms as President. She brings more than 20 years of experience from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she currently works as Program Manager. In addition, she serves as Program Director and Assistant Professor for the Anesthesia Technology program at Columbia State Community College. Sue is deeply committed to advancing education and leadership in the profession.

What we do?

As a growing allied health profession, the Anesthesia Technology profession specifically focuses on fundamental and advanced clinical procedures, which assist the anesthesia provider in the safe and efficient care of patients receiving anesthesia. Working under the direction of the anesthesia provider, anesthesia technologists and technicians are vital members of the anesthesia care team. They are proficient in the acquisition, preparation, and application of various types of equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care. Technologists and technicians are trained to anticipate the needs of the patient and the provider, according to the surgical requirements, procedure or circumstance.

ASATT is recognized as the organization responsible for maintaining and raising standards for technologist education, patient care and high level competence for both technologists and technicians. To this end, the society has established and administers its nationally-recognized certification program and the ASATT National Certification Examination. Designed to advance a national standard of excellence in requisite knowledge in the field of anesthesia technology, qualified allied health personnel, anesthesiology providers, and most importantly, patients, all benefit from ASATT.
