Pregnancy doesn’t always go how you picture it… here’s how ours began.
At just 5 weeks, I started having painful cramping and bleeding. After a miscarriage in the past, I was terrified I was losing this pregnancy too.
Looking back, I should’ve caught my first clue: my positive pregnancy test lines were faint for days after ovulation—when you’re an ND who tracks everything, that should have tipped me off that something unusual was happening. Spoiler: twins often mean hormone levels rise a little differently. 😉
We ended up in the ER overnight searching for answers. Around 2am my HCG came back really elevated (a good sign!)—and I even joked, ‘what if it’s twins?’
The next morning, the doctor read my ultrasound results: ‘two gestational sacs.’ I was exhausted, overwhelmed, in disbelief… but mostly so, so grateful.
The bleeding was likely from a subchorionic hemorrhage, which thankfully resolved. (Shout out to episode 103 which helped ease my mind as I waited for it to resolve). And on the repeat ultrasound, we saw them both for the very first time 🤍👶🏼👶🏼. We celebrated with breakfast afterwards—because how else do you process finding out you’re having twins?
This is not how I pictured my first pregnancy. I also learned that the birth center I’d planned on doesn’t deliver twins… but the silver lining? I’ve found an amazing OB + midwifery team to guide me the rest of the way.
Already, this pregnancy is teaching me about surrender, resilience, and trusting the process.
