Blood Sugar, Hormones, and Acne: Why It’s All Connected

Read the full article on my website!

When patients come in for acne, bloating, irregular cycles, fatigue, or stubborn inflammation, they often assume they’re dealing with separate problems. In reality, these symptoms are usually part of the same system. Hormones, digestion, and skin are deeply interconnected — and understanding tha...

I thought happiness lived in a different city.

I thought it lived in clear skin too.

For a long time,
I carried acne on my face
and sadness in my body.

So I tried to outgrow it.
Out run it.
Out move it.

But healing didn’t happen when my zipcode changed
Or when my skin was perfect.

It happened when I let myself feel-
the grief,
the anger,
and fully see the metabolic and hormone imbalances below.

Your internal state matters.

Healing acne is rarely just topicals.
It’s metabolic.
It’s hormonal.
It’s related to your gut microbiome.

It’s all connected. This is why treating acne from the inside out changes everything.

Healing doesn’t happen when your nervous system is in survival mode.

One of the biggest myths in wellness is that doing more = getting better.

Real healing often starts with slowing down enough to listen.

This is the work I guide women through—root cause, regulation, and sustainable change.

You don’t need another protocol.
You need support that actually fits your life.

My win for the day: the yoga mat is finally unrolled.

Postpartum movement right now = zero expectations.

Some days it’s stretching or a walk outside.
Some days it’s breathing.
Some days it’s nothing.

Right now, my focus is rebuilding core strength and reconnecting with my pelvic floor. This work matters — especially postpartum, and especially after a C-section and twins.

Deep belly breaths and 360 breathing with gentle pelvic floor engagement are what I’m practicing.

My intention is to rebuild a stronger body moving forward.
So starting with the foundations looks like this:
breathwork, a high-protein diet, and slow, intentional core strength.

Pregnancy doesn’t always go how you picture it… here’s how ours began.

At just 5 weeks, I started having painful cramping and bleeding. After a miscarriage in the past, I was terrified I was losing this pregnancy too.

Looking back, I should’ve caught my first clue: my positive pregnancy test lines were faint for days after ovulation—when you’re an ND who tracks everything, that should have tipped me off that something unusual was happening. Spoiler: twins often mean hormone levels rise a little differently. 😉

We ended up in the ER overnight searching for answers. Around 2am my HCG came back really elevated (a good sign!)—and I even joked, ‘what if it’s twins?’

The next morning, the doctor read my ultrasound results: ‘two gestational sacs.’ I was exhausted, overwhelmed, in disbelief… but mostly so, so grateful.

The bleeding was likely from a subchorionic hemorrhage, which thankfully resolved. (Shout out to episode 103 which helped ease my mind as I waited for it to resolve). And on the repeat ultrasound, we saw them both for the very first time 🤍👶🏼👶🏼. We celebrated with breakfast afterwards—because how else do you process finding out you’re having twins?

This is not how I pictured my first pregnancy. I also learned that the birth center I’d planned on doesn’t deliver twins… but the silver lining? I’ve found an amazing OB + midwifery team to guide me the rest of the way.

Already, this pregnancy is teaching me about surrender, resilience, and trusting the process.

Surprise—there are two stowaways on this wellness journey 🫶🏼👶🏼👶🏼.

29 weeks in, and learning firsthand just how much magic (and magnesium) it takes to grow twins.

Feeling grateful, stretched (literally), and excited to share this next season with you 💫.

Cold Plunge - Everything you need to know!

Cold therapy has been used for centuries, as far back as 3500BC with Edwin Smith Papyrus, the Ancient Greeks and Hippocrates. One of the most prominent forefathers of naturopathic medicine was Sebastian Kneipp, also known as the “water doctor.” In 1849, Kneipp had become ill with a life-threaten...

Most of us are thriving off our sympathetic nervous system for years, and then eventually find it a struggle to relax, sleep, cook dinner, or find a routine. This is due to weak parasympathetic tone. To get out of sympathetic dominance, we must work consistently to tonify our parasympathetic nervous system.

We have two parts of our autonomic nervous system – the sympathetic nervous system (“Fight or Flight”) and the parasympathetic nervous system (“Rest & Digest”). When your sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system is activated, it can trigger a cascade of events that can either adversel...
