Let's talk a little about one of our favorite Healthy Hobbies....
Gardening can be a fun and rewarding experience, and it's a great way to connect with nature.
Here are some basic tips to help you get started:
Pick Easy-to-Grow Plants: For beginners, consider planting resilient options like lettuce, radishes, bush beans, or herbs like basil and mint. They're forgiving and offer quick rewards!
Choose the Right Spot: Most vegetables and many flowers need at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. Observe your yard to find the sunniest spot and make a plan depending on what plants you choose to grow.
Start with Good Soil: Healthy plants begin with healthy soil. Amend your garden beds with compost or other organic matter to provide essential nutrients and improve drainage.
Water Wisely: Water deeply and consistently, especially when plants are young. The best time to water is in the morning, allowing leaves to dry throughout the day.
Mulch for Success: Apply a layer of organic mulch (like straw or wood chips) around your plants. It helps suppress weeds, retain moisture, and keeps soil temperatures steady.
