Amber, Nurse of the Year at Aurora Medical Center – Oshkosh, currently serves as a certified oncology nurse and is known for her clinical excellence, collaboration and leadership. She's led numerous process improvement initiatives, such as the lab prior authorization project and the lab chart prep project. She serves as a mentor and preceptor while actively engaging in professional governance. Additionally, she chairs the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic journal club, which focuses on evidence-based practices and recently helped lead an article on central line maintenance that aligns system-wide protocols. Outside of work, she is an active member of the Northeastern Wisconsin Oncology Nursing Society.

“I have been drawn to nursing for as long as I can remember. My path to oncology started early in my health care career while working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. During that time, I had the fortunate opportunity to be introduced to the cancer and end-of-life care population. These are the people I feel most called to serve. The world of cancer care is ever changing with incredible improvements in treatment options and side effect management. We are continually improving the patient experience and outcomes. The evolving science provides endless opportunities for learning and growth.”

☀️ As summer sizzles across Wisconsin, it’s important to play it safe while enjoying the sunshine.

Dr. Jennifer Lo, primary care provider at Aurora Health Care in Racine, shares essential tips for staying healthy in the heat — especially for families with young kids.

“Heat-related illnesses can sneak up quickly, especially on humid days,” says Dr. Lo. “Try to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and take frequent breaks in the shade or indoors on days with high heat indices.”

After being diagnosed with life-threatening heart failure, Steve found hope through the expert care of Dr. Mohamed Djelmami-Hani, an electrophysiologist at Aurora Health Care. Dr. Hani’s compassion and clear treatment plan—including an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)—helped Steve reclaim his health and his future.

“Neither the doctors, my family or I knew if I would live very long,” Steve says. “But Dr. Hani not only implanted the ICD—he planted a seed of hope. His care and my dedication to heart health helped that seed sprout. As my condition improved, I began to hope, dream and live again. My next goal was to live fully.”

Through dedication to exercise and nutrition, Steve improved his heart function and transformed his life. He earned a degree in Health Care Administration and returned to work full time—first in the emergency department, then on the cardiology team that once treated him. Now, Steve works alongside Dr. Hani.

“It’s very rewarding to see a patient’s quality of life transform,” says Dr. Hani. “Now being able to professionally work alongside Steve and serve patients is a true testament to him and his care.”

Ulviye wasn’t sure if motherhood was part of her story — until baby Bernadette arrived and changed everything. 💕

After two rounds of IVF and a surprise natural pregnancy, Ulviye gave birth at 42. Her journey reflects a growing trend: more women over 40 are choosing to start families — and doing it on their own timeline.

“I always say that the best time to have a baby is when you are ready, and that doesn’t come with an age,” says Dr. Marie Forgie, the OB-GYN who delivered Bernadette. “Don’t listen to outside pressures. Listen to what’s inside.”

In 2023, nearly 150,000 babies were born to mothers over 40 — triple the number from 1990. With more women prioritizing career, partnership, and personal readiness, the definition of the “right time” is evolving.
