Congratulations Dr. Kurpad!

We are proud to announce that Shekar N. Kurpad, MD, PhD, FEL ’01, has been unanimously appointed as the Medical College of Wisconsin’s seventh president and CEO, effective July 1, 2026.

As president and CEO, Dr. Kurpad will lead MCW’s bold strategic vision to drive growth; champion academic and scientific excellence; ensure the institution’s long-term financial strength; and foster partnerships with MCW’s clinical partners, policymakers, industry leaders, and community stakeholders.

“Dr. Kurpad was selected following a comprehensive national search and brings a proven record of leadership, innovation and impact,” said John Donofrio, chair of the MCW Board of Trustees. “He is uniquely positioned to guide MCW forward, building on our strong foundation, while advancing academic medicine through our patient care, research, education, and community engagement missions.”

Marc de Moya, MD, Chief of MCW Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, has been named senior medical director of Froedtert & MCW enterprise OR management. In his role, Dr. de Moya will oversee the implementation of surgery strategies at 3 hospitals, 4 surgery centers and the Eye Institute. Congratulations!

We had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Marquette Upward Bound program to our Campus this week. We toured the path of a trauma patient which allowed the students a look into what victims of trauma injury would experience as a patient here. We discussed the care the patients would receive as well as all the different health care providers involved in that care, what their education path was and why they chose it. They had tons of opportunity to ask questions and learn more about career options in healthcare and how we care for our patients. Their questions where thoughtful and insightful. We had a wonderful time with these outstanding students. Keep up the great work we know you will all do great things in your futures.
