Kristen, Nurse of the Year at Aurora Medical Center – Washington County, has a holistic approach to care that highlights the importance of social drivers of health. Beyond individual care, she's led innovative projects to combat compassion fatigue among colleagues, boosting morale and enhancing patient satisfaction. Her healing recognition program, featuring a "healed" bell for patients, creates a motivating environment for both teammates and patients. As a passionate educator with an MSN, she teaches aspiring nurses at UW-Milwaukee and is further advancing her expertise through a scholarship from the International Alliance of Wound Care.

“Most recently, I played a direct role in achieving our site’s second Magnet designation! This was a powerful reminder nursing excellence is rooted in the direct impact nurses have on health care. The process leading up to our second designation highlighted how nursing practice shapes health care standards. This further supports my commitment to life-long learning and my professional practice, which results in delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.”

From kids to coworkers. 💙

A group of childhood friends from Cedarburg, Wisconsin are now college students. This summer, all five young men worked for Aurora Health Care in roles ranging from direct patient care to behind-the-scenes support.

Mark was a patient transporter, Jacob volunteered and shadowed sports medicine roles, Jace was a CNA, Andrew served as a welcome service concierge, and Cole was a phlebotomist and lab processor. The friend group says these roles have helped them grow as individuals – from building communications skills to practicing empathy. Best of all, they spent the summer together.

“It means everything to be friends with these guys,” said Andrew.

“We are basically brothers,” explained Jacob. “We all met through school and kept our group together through high school graduation and beyond.”

Now, they’re headed back to class to continue their studies. They plan to pursue careers in medicine, nursing, physical therapy and finance.

We wish them all the best in the semester ahead.
