Summer habits can sabotage your health.
What may feel intuitive can actually be creating more stress in the body with symptoms that sneak up and cause discomfort.

Issues with digestion, muscle tension, painful menstrual cramping, lethargy, insomnia, low immunity, and overheating can all be signs of overindulging in poor habits.

Enhance your morning routine with a few minutes of acupressure + guided movement (dao yin).

Upon waking, take few minutes to gently massage your abdomen. Start by gently massaging the right ribs with the right hand to warm this area up. This will help the liver and gallbladder relax and wake up energy flow. Repeat on the left side, 10-12x on each side.

Now find the midway point of the midline of the abdomen above the naval. Using three fingers, gently press and rotate clockwise direction 18-36x. This is stimulating the stomach to improve appetite and strengthen digestion.

Finish by placing one palm of the hand over the other and pressing on the naval. Massage clockwise around the naval 36x and then repeat in the counterclockwise direction.

Summer is a time when the body can feel sluggish, hot, and anxious. Applying pressure on the Buddha's Triangle sequence and Pericardium 8 on the palm help release heat and tension in the body that is associated with anxiety, chest fullness, insomnia, and agitation from heat.

Stay cool. Stay grounded.

Emily Klik, LMT CST, is a Certified CranioSacral Therapist and Licensed Bodyworker Therapist, practicing CST exclusively since 2002.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on bodywork modality that focuses on evaluating, mobilizing, and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system — the membranes, bones, and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Therapists use light-touch manual therapy techniques, typically no more than the weight of a nickel, to release tension in the body’s connective tissues, aiming to improve the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and promote the body’s natural healing processes.

CST is based on the idea that the body has an inherent ability to heal itself and that restrictions or injury in the craniosacral system contribute to a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. This therapy is often used to address issues such as migraines, headaches, chronic pain, anxiety/ stress-related disorders, TMJ dysfunction, and nervous system imbalances. Because it is non-invasive and deeply relaxing, CST is considered suitable for people of all ages, including infants and the elderly.

Sessions are scheduled for 60 minutes, and typically include 45-50 minutes of hands-on therapy. At the end of sessions, clients usually report a reduction in pain, improved clarity, and a greater sense of well-being. With regular ongoing bodywork, most clients report improvements in balance, sense function (e.g. smell/ taste), coordination, and sleep.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, early summer is the season of rising Yang energy — a time to cool, calm, and stay balanced as heat begins to build.

🌿 Mint + Chrysanthemum Tea has been used for centuries to:
・release Wind-Heat from the body
・soothe the Liver + clear the eyes
・ease tension, irritability, and mild headaches

How to make it:
1 tsp dried mint (Bo He)
1–2 tsp dried chrysanthemum flowers (Ju Hua)
2 cups hot water
→ steep 5–10 mins, covered
→ strain + sip warm or iced
→ optional: add raw honey for balance

☀️ Best enjoyed in the late morning or afternoon — when the Heart and Liver are most active, and the day’s heat is strongest.
