An Antibiotics Fact
Antibiotics only treat infections caused by bacteria, like whooping cough, strep throat, and urinary tract infection, among others. They are also essential in treating life-threatening conditions caused by bacteria (e.g., sepsis). However, antibiotics don't work on viruses, particularly those that cause flu, colds and runny noses, and most cases of chest colds.
Taking antibiotics won't help you when they aren't needed and their side effects can affect you. Therefore, you should only take them when recommended by your doctor.
