May the 4th!
May The Fourth Be With You (And an Advocacy Push)
Michiganders, we have an opportunity to advocate for better allergen labeling in restaurants.
Rep. Brenda Carter of Pontiac has introduced H.B. 5402. This is similar to the ADDE Act that recently passed in California. The bill requires food service permit holders to provide written notification to consumers about the presence of all major food allergens
WHAT I NEED YOU TO DO.
Please contact your State of Michigan legislators and ask them to support this bill.
You can email them, call them, and even ask to speak to them in person.
Right now the bill requires the labeling of all major food allergens. As we know, the FDA does not require the labeling of all gluten containing grains. When contacting your legislators, please ask for an amendment to the bill that requires the labeling of all gluten containing grains.
DON'T LIVE IN MICHIGAN?
There are a number of states that have other proposed legislation regarding restaurant labeling and more.
Read my blog post to learn more about them.
