Attorneys in Action! Recently Partner Ryan MacGillis volunteered at Junior Achievement of Wisconsin's BizTown as a part of his daughter's class trip. For those not familiar, JA BizTown is a learning experience that allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage businesses, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. It's a phenomenal organization and we were happy to have one of our team member take part in their mission. Co-parenting during and after divorce can be challenging. So when we find out about tools that can help make it easier, we spread the word! We recently learned about a cool app that helps you stay connected and focused on what matters most—the well-being of your kids. It's called Our Family Wizard. It can even be customized to fit your family's specific needs. If you are looking to streamline a lot of details with your ex, this might be worth a look.

Facts. Your social media activity can adversely affect you in a divorce or custody case. This is easily avoidable by doing the following:

1. Taking a complete break from social media during the divorce process.
2. Reducing or ceasing posting or commenting (on follower posts) until the divorce is final.
3. Sharing photos of parties, lavish events, or vacations.
4. Announcing a new relationship.
5. Posting about your kids, especially if custody is at stake.

Rule of thumb: If you have to stop and think about whether or not you should post about something, you shouldn't.

If you do choose to be active on social, keep it positive and play it safe for both you and/or your kids.

A decade ago when family law attorneys talked about “hidden assets,” they were usually referring to offshore accounts, cash businesses, or undisclosed credit cards. Today, hidden assets often look different. Now they can be digital! And in many cases, they involve cryptocurrency. Our friends at the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA) put together an article about this very topic. It's interesting and informative. Check it out by clicking on the link below!
