Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is the state's largest and most trusted reproductive health care provider.

Since opening in 1935 with one small clinic in Milwaukee run by a group of volunteers, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) has grown to be Wisconsin’s largest and most trusted reproductive health care provider. For 80 years, we've been providing the health care, education and advocacy people need to make informed, responsible decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. Abortion bans don’t save lives—they make access to essential health care harder and more dangerous. In Wisconsin, abortion access was severely limited after Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, with in‑state clinic‑reported abortions falling by about 87% and most people seeking care forced to travel out of state.

Even as services have resumed in some clinics, the impact of restrictions remains clear: in 2024, thousands of Wisconsinites traveled to Illinois and Minnesota for abortion care, and many others face logistical, financial, and legal barriers just to get basic reproductive health services in their own state.

Research shows that when abortion care becomes harder to access, people are more likely to carry pregnancies they did not intend to continue—placing individuals at increased risk of medical, economic, and social harm. These obstacles disproportionately affect people with low incomes and communities of color.

Abortion bans don’t make pregnancy safer. They force people to navigate greater barriers to care, travel long distances, delay critical health services, and shoulder increased risk. Wisconsinites deserve reliable access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care so that no one has to risk their health or well‑being to get the care they need.
