Sarah has been practicing and studying yoga for close to 30 years and teaching since 2000. Certified through the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago with advanced certification from the Asheville Yoga Center in North Carolina where she studied with renowned teachers like Leslie Kaminoff, Gary Kraftsow, Doug Keller and Bryan Kest, she is influenced by the precise alignment of Iyengar Yoga, the breath and strength of Patabi Jois' Ashtanga Yoga, and the flow and grace of vinyasa yoga. Sarah is registered with the Yoga Alliance as an e-RYT 500 teacher as well as a YACEP (Continuing Education Provider). In 2004 she received her Certified Ayurveda Educator certificate and incorporates the ancient healing techniques of Ayurveda into her yoga practice and teachings. Sarah developed and led the Registered Yoga Teacher Training Program at Kanyakumari Ayurveda and Yoga Wellness Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2004 until the Center closed in 2016. She is currently the co-director of Healium Hot Yoga's 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program, which she co-developed and started in 2017, and manages Healium Hot Yoga in Milwaukee. Happy New Year!

I’ve been super quiet on this account for the past year but for all good reasons! Today marks the one year anniversary of the incomparable bringing me on as co-owner at Healium Hot Yoga — and I could not be happier with this partnership and the direction life has taken me when I made the choice to pursue teaching as a career almost 26 years ago 😳

Those of you who know me know that I’m one of the least woowoo people around and I beyond appreciate critical and logical thinking…but I’m also a firm believer in following one’s intuition and listening to that little voice (that sometimes is really really loud!) inside as a guide for what paths to take in life. The 8 Limb path is solid and provides the tools needed for navigating this crazy world.

This event is a Healium 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Module; it is also available for 8 Continuing Education Credits* with Yoga Alliance.

Join Sarah Filzen, eRYT 500, for a day-long workshop which will focus on understanding the anatomy of fascia, yogic techniques - both asana and complimentary practices - to address fascia as well as sequencing considerations and working with injuries. Attendees will also demonstrate fascia-release techniques in asana as part of the Practicum requirement for Yoga Alliance credit.

Please bring 2 tennis balls lightly tied in a sock or a set (or more) of yoga therapy balls.

*Important: Credit can be applied towards the 300 hour teaching certification or Yoga Alliance Continuing Education credit, not both. To receive 300 hour credit, you must be formally enrolled in Healium’s 300 hour advanced training program prior to this class.

25 years and still focused AF

OMG mid-March marks my 25th year of teaching yoga, pretty much full time! I don’t remember the exact date but I sure remember the class: at Bally’s gym in Cudahy (no longer there), it was the first yoga class at that gym, too. I’m sure the sequencing wasn’t perfect, but damn it was fun and here I am, still excited to teach, 25 years on and counting! Discover what you love, study it relentlessly and find joy in the practice…and then share it with others ❤️

I’ll be teaching an anniversary flow at Healium Hot Yoga Wednesday March 19th with a soundtrack to tunes all released in the year 2000.

This is an all-ages spirited punk rock yoga class! Bring your own yoga mat for a beginner/intermediate yoga session with a punk rock soundtrack at the Very Famous X-Ray Arcade! A portion of the proceeds will benefit Pearls for Teen Girls.

This event is for all ages/skill levels and includes one complimentary domestic beer or well drink for those over 21 (and a soda, seltzer, or coffee for those under).

In 2017 Sarah, along with Meg Vetting of The Heart Revival, became the co-developer and director of the 200 Hour Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher Training at Healium Hot Yoga in Bay View. As a Certified Education Provider through Yoga Alliance, she also offers continuing education workshops for yoga teachers at yoga studios in the Milwaukee area. Areas of speciality include Manual Asana Adjustments and Incorporating Ayurveda into Asana Classes. Along with the teacher training program and continuing education, Sarah teaches at least four public classes a week at Healium Hot Yoga as well as weekly classes at Milwaukee area corporations and courses at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
