If you are hosting a gathering this year, we have a small suggestion that could mean the world to a friend with depression. Dr. Anita Sanz suggests offering guests a "safe space" or a "back door" policy. https://recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/

Tell your loved ones that if they get overstimulated or tired, they can slip into a quiet guest room for twenty minutes to recharge, or even leave out the back door without saying goodbye. No questions asked. It sounds unconventional, but knowing that escape hatch exists can actually lower anxiety enough to let someone attend in the first place.

Let's make our circles safer and more inclusive this year. Listen to the full episode for more compassionate strategies like this. If you have others that work, please note them below so we can all learn. https://recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/

Depression can make it feel like you don’t have the energy to do anything to help yourself. That’s why we wanted to highlight a practice you can do in just a few minutes, without leaving where you are- even if that's your bed. https://recovery.com/voices/giving-voice-to-depression/

In this Giving Voice to Depression episode, guest Brad Yates leads a guided EFT/tapping session, customized for GVTD listeners who are feeling low.

Even if tapping seems strange or woo-woo at first, it's worth a try. The more tools we have to manage our mental health, the better. Let us know how it works for you.

Let's be real: The "most wonderful time of the year" is often the hardest time of the year for those of us navigating depression, grief, or financial strain. https://recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/

You aren't the only one feeling the pressure. 💙

Our guest and Dr. Anita Sanz discusses why the holidays hit so hard and how to treat yourself as a "co-creator" of your experience rather than a victim of it.

Her helpful/hilarious Mental Health Bingo card idea alone is worth listening for!

Let's be real, parenting is tough. But when you're also wrestling with depression, anxiety, and ADHD—and your kids have their own mental health battles? That's a whole different level of hard.

This week on the Giving Voice to Depression podcast, we talk with Michelle. She gets incredibly honest about the heavy, physical weight of depression and the constant battle against that little voice that says, "You’re not important." A message to counter that? Tell yourself: "Hey, you don't suck." (Seriously, we all need to hear that sometimes!)

If you've ever felt the guilt of needing a break, you need to hear this episode. Hope is real, and so are the strategies she shares!

NEW episode: Caryn explains that her recovery didn't happen in isolation. https://recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/ She had to actively build a prepared support system, including finding a deeply attentive therapist and instructing her friends on how to respond when she reached out.

She shares a powerful moment where a friend simply allowed her to cry for fifteen minutes straight, and that alone provided the necessary release. Her experience shows the life-changing difference a knowledgeable support system can make.

For those of you with treatment-resistant depression, Caryn's story proves that the promise that "new meds are being developed all the time" can lead to the relief you seek. Please tune in.

This week, we're sharing an important episode where 93-year-old Mary speaks candidly about her struggle with depression, the shame she feels, and the pain of seeing her body and peer group fail.

She reminds us that the feeling of wanting someone to "just be there" is universal, no matter your age. Please listen, and share this with anyone whose family needs to hear this honest voice.

NEW Giving Voice to Depression podcast episode! https://recovery.com/podcasts/giving-voice-to-depression/

We sat down with psychotherapist/interventionist Evan Jarschauer to talk about what real mental health interventions look like—with no TV theatrics.

Evan walks us through how empathy, preparation, and “high love + high accountability” can move someone from stuck to supported, and how families can avoid creating a “Petri dish” where symptoms grow.

Coming Together. Action. Hope. Recovery.

Prevent Su***de Greater Milwaukee (PSGM) is a coalition of volunteers representing local agencies and organizations as well as the general community.

PSGM is part of the state-wide initiative, Prevent Su***de Wisconsin (PSW) and a program of Mental Health America of Wisconsin (MHA of WI). We are a community coalition working together to reduce the number of attempts and deaths by su***des. We are an open coalition and invite new members who are interested in the cause of su***de prevention. We are a no-pressure coalition! To belong can mean you attend a training “here and there” or you run an elaborate work-group.

PSGM Vision: Community awareness and education regarding su***de will lead to early intervention and prevent su***de attempts and deaths by su***de.

PSGM Mission: The coalition promotes su***de prevention by providing education, increasing awareness, and facilitating community collaboration.
