Today is the day! Big thanks to Three Rivers house manager Kevin and all the others who worked so hard on putting this event together. Show up and support! :)
My name is Kevin Breitzman. My initial experience with Drop the Needle was attending the first annual Drop the Needle Event held last year. At the time I was only a couple of months clean and sober. An opportunity came up for me to actually be apart of the planning team for this year’s 2nd annual event, and I was excited to be involved. As of this year, Drop the Needle is not just an annual fundraiser to build awareness and focus on Alcohol/Drug Addiction, but is now an official non-profit organization, with a desire to reach out to our community year round. Being a part of this great group of 5 people has been an amazing experience so far, with great growth to come in the future.
I’ve struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for over 15 years. It was extremely dark and lonely for a long time. I was hopeless and broken. It wasn’t until I was welcomed with open arms into a community of recovering addicts, that I witnessed first hand, the possibility of living a purposeful and enjoyable life, was an option for me.
DTN is a way for me to give back what was given to me. Open arms and an understanding of the pain and suffering addicts endure. I work with alcoholics/addicts every day and together we try to rebuild a life that at one point seemed overwhelmingly impossible to do.
Today I have over 1 year of sobriety and couldn’t be more grateful for that. I believe that assisting with recovery starts with educating and making aware to others that change is definitely possible. The one major part of my personal recovery is learning that I couldn’t do it on my own. Without people who care and their desire to make an impact with recovering addicts in my life, I can’t say for sure that I would be alive today. For that reason alone is why I am so passionate about being actively involved in addiction recovery within our community.
