The elimination of the Special Education section of the Dept of Education is shocking ; this is what kids with special needs depend on. If there is no federal oversight and funding, each state can do what it wants. That means states or school districts with poorer budgets will not be able to provide needed services and will not be accountable for it. Kids could once again end up at staying home, instead of in inclusive educational settings that prepare them for life.

ACOG reaffirms the safety and benefits of acetaminophen use during pregnancy.
More than two decades of research have found no causal link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in children. Acetaminophen continues to be an important and safe option for managing pain and fever in pregnancyโ€”conditions that can pose serious risks to pregnant patients and their fetuses if left untreated. Todayโ€™s White House event on autism was filled with dangerous claims and misleading information that sends a confusing message to parents and expecting parents and does a disservice to autistic individuals.

We know autism is complex, highly variable and increasingly linked to genetics. Individualized plans, often involving a combination of developmental, behavioral, educational and social-relational strategies, can help improve outcomes that are meaningful to individuals and families. We also need and welcome additional investments in federally funded research to better support families of autistic children.

Families who have questions about their childโ€™s medications, autism care plans or other health care should consult with their pediatrician or health care provider.

The State of Wisconsin just issued a standing order to allow access to the COVID 19 vaccine for anyone 6 months or older who wants it. This is in alignment with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). So pharmacies must provide if you request. Get your flu vaccine as well!

Please talk to your primary care physician as those were special needs are even more at risk

For over 90 years, AAP has served as a leading voice in vaccine recommendations, updating its immunization schedule each year. That has not changed. We will continue to provide an evidence-backed vaccine schedule for parents and pediatricians and remain committed to supporting childrenโ€™s access to immunizations for years to come.

Medicaid matters to Kit and his family in De Pere. Tell members of Congress how Medicaid matters to you. Congress is moving forward with a budget reconciliation bill that will make at least $1.5-2 Trillion in spending cuts, including at least $880 Billion in Medicaid cuts.

Now, U.S. House committees are publicly saying what cuts they want to make to federal programs and spending at "budget mark-up" meetings. May 7th advocates expect the committee that covers Medicaid to show what Medicaid cut ideas they have written into legislative language. No cuts have happened yet, so calls to explain how Medicaid matters to you are important!

Yesterday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services released a model estimating how some federal spending cut ideas could impact Wisconsin Medicaid. Here is a link to that full report:https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/medicaid/fed-medicaid-cuts-full-2025.pdf
