Karen Evangelista was a 2014 Graduate of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (M&I) at MCW. In the spring of 2020, Karen passed away after a long battle with cancer. During her time in the department, Karen was well known for her kind and generous nature, as well as her willingness to provide a helping hand to anyone in need. To honor Karen’s memory, the department has established the Karen Evangelista Humanitarian Award to annually recognize an M&I student who exhibits these qualities and who serves as an exemplary role model to others. The winner will be announced at the annual Distinguished Faculty Lecture in Infectious Diseases. In addition, the awardee will receive a cash gift and their name will be engraved on a plaque to be displayed in the department atrium. If you wish to donate towards this award, click on the link below, enter a $$ amount, pull down “other” from the “Gift Designation” drop-down menu, and enter “26001-3309655-103-10” in the “other” box.
